Gudlevskis for Verhaeghe

The Islanders announced they’ve traded Carter Verhaeghe to Tampa Bay for goalie Kristers Gudlevskis.

Gudlevskis has played the past four years for Syracuse to a .902 save percentage. Perhaps goaltending depth; perhaps insurance as Christopher Gibson recovers. Like Gibson, Gudlevskis is a restricted free agent.

Verhaeghe had some very good streaks here and some ups and downs, too. He’ll get a chance in a third organization. (Gibson, then, is the only remaining piece of the Michael Grabner trade. Tom Nilsson was gone almost before he arrived. Taylor Beck was traded for Marc-Andre Cliche, who left as a free agent. Matt Finn was cut loose last week. And now this.)
