Whitney to the Pack: Thursday notes

There have, by my count, been 32 men to play for both the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Few have been better than the guy who could be No. 33: No. 9. Hartford announced the signing of Joe Whitney on Thursday. Whitney returns to the Northeast after a year in the Southwest, split between San Antonio (where he started slow) and Tucson, finishing with 36 points in 74 games.

Toledo (ECHL) announced it has signed Ryan Obuchowski. The Yalie was under contract to Bridgeport last season but didn’t play up here.

The AHL’s Booster Clubs’ convention is in town this weekend. By far the coolest thing about the entire thing was learning that the Philadelphia Firebirds are still represented.

Bruno Gervais joins the media. Our condolences.

On the Athletic, Corey Pronman on one intriguing player at camp for each NHL team (the Islanders’ is a draft pick who might play here and oh I’ve given it away; subscribe already), and Justin Bourne on the Canucks’ prospects, including a former Sound Tiger.

Positively fantastic, especially the Kings’ update, which I more or less begged for earlier.

Hoping the best for the Southeast.

And RIP, Gene Michael.
