Swingin’ School: Monday notes

Brent Thompson was not happy out there this morning. Saw a casual practice. Saw swinging. Wanted them harder to play against. Skated them a bit in the middle of a drill.

“They set a standard in camp of how hard they work,” Thompson said. “We can’t let that slip off in practice or games.”

Without Stephen Gionta, still to be evaluated for his lower-body injury, Tanner Fritz took his spot. John Stevens, back in full practice mode, joined Ross Johnston with Ryan Bourque.

Missed it postgame Saturday, but Bridgeport’s last goal was changed from Devon Toews’ to Steve Bernier’s. The first one is still up for grabs, apparently, whether it stays Scott Eansor’s or it goes to Johnston on a redirect. The video will apparently decide.

Speaking of Eansor, he came into the room talking about how he’d broken only one stick. Called them “indestructible.” Assume they’ll all shatter spontaneously by tomorrow morning.

The Sound Tigers are looking for community heroes.

They’re also offering a free kid’s ticket for Oct. 28 (with an adult ticket purchase) for coloring a picture, but yours totally won’t be best just sayin‘.

From the New Yorker, a neat piece on the return of Cat Stevens.

And RIP, Daniel Webb.
