Slots in the slot: Wednesday notes

So Mohegan Sun and the Arena are newly aligned as of this morning. “The three year, multiple-level agreement (that) involves concerts, sporting events and sponsorships is effective immediately,” says the release. It’s an interesting development and one that feeds off of a whole lot of what’s going on right now by the harbor, as the story by Jim Shay and Brian Lockhart says.

Meanwhile, remember all my mumbling late Friday night about that Seth Helgeson goal, and how it looked like it changed direction at least once, and if it did… Guess what? It did. Helgeson’s shot hit Ryan Bourque and was tipped by Steve Bernier. It’s now Bernier’s goal from Bourque and Helgeson. There are no tertiary assists in pro hockey. If there were, Tanner Fritz would’ve had six points. But there are no tertiary assists. So now Tanner Fritz no longer has even five points. I’m still hashing out the correction to put on this story now that it’s just the 46th four-point game in team history (including the, now once again, four five-point games).

Anyway. Same cast of characters as usual for Bridgeport this morning at Wonderland. They won’t skate tomorrow, so more Friday unless warranted.

It was quite the day 100 years ago today. Happy Independence Day, Finland, as expressed in tweets from @CGibber37 and @SeanBergenheim. And closer to home was the Halifax Explosion, one unbelievable event (that I’d never heard of until I went there). That CBC recreation is amazing.

Marek Mazanec is indeed a Hartford Wolf Pack goalie. I keep wanting to stick an extra ‘n’ in there, and if I don’t accidentally call him Ray Manzarek by the end of the year, I’ll be happy. (Sorta like whatever Springfield’s nickname is now. Hey, another chance to mess it up Saturday.)

And RIP, Christine Keeler and 1980 presidential candidate John Anderson.
