Ludlowe beat Trinity Catholic by a score of 5-3 and with the win they clinched a spot in the class LL state tournament.
Ludlowe Senior Tim Moran threw 5 innings, allowing only 2 hits, while walking 5. Victor D’Ascenzo threw the final 2 innings, allowing 3 runs.
Ludlowe’s offense was led by Mike Poudrier who had a 2 run double. Also Charlie Meder and Mike Kochiss each had RBI singles to help out the cause.
Ludlowe played a very nice defensive game, committing no errors. Meder did a very good job in center field, including a running catch in dead center that saved a run.
After 6 innings, Ludlowe had a 5-0 lead. Trinity wouldn’t go quietly though as they loaded the bases and then had 2 straight singles that scored 3 runs to pull the crusaders within 2. With 2 outs and a runner at second, the potential tying run came to the plate. D’Ascenzo was able to get out of it as he fielded a come backer and threw to first for the final out.
Ludlowe improves to 8-5 overall, 7-4 in the FCIAC. Even though they clinched a state tournament berth, the Falcons still have a lot more work to do. They are right in the middle of the wild FCIAC playoff race. One day could change a lot of things for the Falcons, good or bad.
