St. Anthony’s of Jersey City, New Jersey traveled up to Fairfield to scrimmage Fairfield Prep on Saturday afternoon. St. Anthony’s is coached by Basketball Hall of Famer Bob Hurley.
St. Anthony’s is ranked #9 nationally in the “USA Super 25″.
There was a possible upset alert early on as Prep lead 9-7 after 1 one quarter and 24-21 at the half. St. Anthony’s was having trouble getting to the lane due to Prep’s Paschal Chukwu–who was questionable with a sprained wrist–who was blocking shots and also forcing St. Anthony’s into altering their shot attempts.
St. Anthony’s made a run in the third quarter by forcing Prep into turnovers and tough shots that allowed St. Anthony’s to get out and run and beat the Prep defense back. Prep wasn’t able to get back on defense which made Chuku a non-factor.
After three quarters, St. Anthony’s led 41-33.
Sophomore point guard Tommy Nolan was doing his best to keep Prep in the game as he hit two big 3 pointers in the second half as St. Anthony’s was trying to pull away.
It was a great effort by Prep but St. Anthony’s was just too much and would prevail 53-40.
After the game both Prep coach Leo Redgate and Hurley spoke about what this game means for both schools. All the proceeds of the game go directly to St. Anthony’s.
It was also a great experience for Prep to play against a team of that caliber.
