The second day of the Fairfield Prep Holiday Classic was very interesting.
The consolation game was a battle between the two public school rivals, while the championship was between the two town private schools.
In the consilation game, Ludlowe beat Warde 55-39 thanks to strong offensive play by both Connor Peterson and Patrick Gutierrez. Peterson had 17, while Gutierrez had 16.
Although he did not do much offensively, Stephen Scholz had a great game, doing all the little things. He was the difference maker for the Falcons.
For Warde, Max Garrett finished with 13 points to lead the Mustangs in defeat.
Ludlowe improves to 3-3 with the win. Warde drops to 1-5.
In the championship game, Prep just dominated Notre Dame to win the Prep Classic by a score of 80-64.
Pascal Chukwu finished with 20 points and was a game changer both offensively and defensively.
For Notre Dame, Dan Upchurch has 24 points. Notre Dame guard, Earl Coleman recorded his 1,000th career point and now has 1,0007 points for his career.
Prep improves to 6-0, while Notre Dame drops to 3-2.
The All-Tournament team was Max Garrett (Warde), Dan Upchurch (Notre Dame), Tim Butala (Prep), Pat Gutierrez (Ludlowe), Earl Coleman (Notre Dame) and Paschal Chukwu (Prep), Chukwu was also named tournament MVP.
The four teams played in a JV tournament named the Walter Fitzgerald Holiday Tournament. The tournament is named for former Fairfield High JV coach and Warde head coach Walter Fitzgerald. Coach Fitzgerald passed away in 2010 after a battle with cancer. Prep beat Notre Dame in the final and Ludlowe beat Warde in the consolation game.
