This year we had 138 participating shops, a record number for our Chamber and our Sidewalk Sales. We attribute much of this to the burgeoning word of mouth over the last two years about how exciting our event is and the fabulous bargains the stores have. Our Chamber worked actively on our social media outreach—Facebook and Twitter—and that, combined with our e mail and advertising campaigns, helped to get the word out. This year we had many calls from the New York City area asking about specifics and when the Sales were being held. We had many outside shoppers ranging from Brooklyn to Orange, CT.
We heard only positive comments from retailers about the four day event. I have gotten a few requests today from retailers that they want the same space. And, the shoppers were thrilled with the many bargains they found (me included). It was evident by looking at certain parts of the sidewalks that were not passable that certain stores were having tremendous deals!
Many shoppers told us that they were taking the day off from work on Thursday and that it was their tradition to spend the day to shop, dine and search for bargains on Greenwich Avenue. On Sunday there was family vibe where we saw many families with children and dogs stroll The Avenue in search of shopping, music and face painting and balloons for the kids.
It truly was a fun event and something that many people mark their calendars for every year since we hold it, rain or shine, the second weekend of July. Speaking of weather, we were fortunate to have picture-perfect weather this year!
