Tonight’s Friends Friday Film will be Women in Love, the 1969 movie directed by Ken Russell.
The movie is based on the D.H. Lawrence novel set in 1920’s England, where free-spirited artist Gudrun (Glenda Jackson) and her schoolteacher sister Ursula (Jennie Linden) make the acquaintance of lifelong friends Gerald (Oliver Reed) and Rupert (Alan Bates). Many consider this to Russell’s best and most restrained film. British director Russell went on to direct many legendary and controversial films from the 1970s until his death last November. Women in Love runs 131 minutes long and is rated R.
