Award-winning journalist Lennie Grimaldi cracks open the juicy stuff in Connecticut's largest city

The Wheel Deal

by:

No, this is not a new bronzed image of Connecticut Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz trying to reinvent her political career, but an image taken by CT Post photographer Phil Noel of the resurrected Wheeler Memorial Fountain at Park Avenue and Fairfield Avenue. Kudos to Mayor Bill Finch and Director of Public Facilities Charlie Carroll, and the folks that pushed for the restoration. Now, if only SuBy can restore her sagging image. She's waiting for a legal opinion on that.

    Hey Lennie,
How come they had money to restore this statue, but a shortfall for the “waterpark” for the children of Bridgeport? Simple…deflection of purpose. It makes people think that there is progress in Bridgeport when in fact Bridgeport is bankrupt fiscally, morally and ethically. It’s the same old same old in Bridgeport. Here’s a city that takes in over $400,000 in revenues and spends over $450,000. They hire at the political level and cut back at the core level. A perfect example is Charlie Carroll who comes from a politically connected family. He’s an unqualified parks and recreation manager (in reality he’s an electrician, from the union that backed Finch) who operates by intimidation. WE can go on and on about the lack of leadership in Connecticut’s largest city. You have a 7 person legislative representation (5 legislators and 2 senators) who have done nothing as a bloc for the good and welfare of Bridgeport. You have a reluctantly elected mayor because those in control were afraid of what Chris Caruso’s mayoralty would do to the ‘establishment’….
