Award-winning journalist Lennie Grimaldi cracks open the juicy stuff in Connecticut's largest city

Russo Taps Debicella

by:

Bridgeport had two residents running for congress. Now there is one.

The campaign of Republican congressional candidate Dan Debicella gets a boost today with an endorsement from Rob Russo, his former colleague in the State Senate, who’s dropping out of the race for the GOP nomination to challenge Democratic incumbent Jim Himes in Connecticut’s Fourth Congressional District.

The other Bridgeporter in the race is Rick Torres, former GOP town chair. Debicella, a Bridgeport native, has raised the most money among the GOP candidates that includes Easton First Selectman Tom Herrmann. A GOP primary is expected in August. Himes will be well financed for reelection, but potentially faces a tough reelection in a district that includes heavy GOP suburbs. Bridgeport, as was the case in 2008, is a crucial piece of Himes’ campaign strategy.

I have met Rick Torres on several occasions and I have attended some of the 5-candidate debates conducted by the Republican Party.
There are really good people running. We can be grateful for that.
I feel Rick Torres stands out because of his Constitutional Platform.
He believes in smaller government and more decisions by the States.
He displays a real love of Country and his desire to get us back to
“We the People” form of Government.
Rick Torres has my vote. I actually have decided to change parties
from Independent to Republican so I can support him in the primary and
encourage friends and family to do the same.

For those looking for a candidate who believes in the Constitution and who has studied its philosophical underpinnings, Rick Torres is a serious contender. Mr. Torres has researched theories of governance and the writers who influenced our Founders in the way that most candidates research polls and study how to win. Both political parties have concerned themselves for too long with who can win, instead of who should win. This makes them followers instead of leaders. Rick’s aim is to enlighten all of us about the Miracle at Philadelphia. When you hear him speak, you will very likely be impressed. He will work hard to engage you, but he will not change his positions to please an audience. It is refreshing. A few like him just might save our Republic. That’s the power of a real leader.
