From Rob Varnon’s piece in the Connecticut Post:
On State Street, less than a block away from the bank, Jennifer Lynne, owner of The Backstroke and a doctor of chiropractic, said she’s hoping the new chief executive at the bank will be more engaged.
Her shop includes chiropractic treatment and gifts and she said employees of the bank are regular customers.
“The mood is great,” she said of her customers. “People are excited.”
“People expect their bank to be local and involved,” Barnes said, when asked what role he will take as head of People’s.
“I think they will see both of us,” Carter said of executive involvement.
Jack Barnes is the interim CEO of Bridgeport-based People’s United Bank. George Carter is chairman of the board of People’s United Bank. There was a day when People’s Bank was part of the community and the community part of the bank. If Barnes and Carter can resurrect the community connection started by Sam Hawley and continued by Nick Goodspeed and David Carson (discontinued by the ousted Philip Sherringham) I say Hallelujah!
How does People’s United Park sound? How about People’s United Arena? The naming rights for the ballpark and arena will be good for the city and good for bank business. Let’s unite.
