Award-winning journalist Lennie Grimaldi cracks open the juicy stuff in Connecticut's largest city

City Council Sounds, Dick Blumenthal Frowns

by:

I wonder as City Council members Evette Brantley, Angel DePara, Marty McCarthy, Richard Bonney and Tom McCarthy were pushing, shoving, rolling on benches and floor with community irritant Cecil Young Monday night, could a smile have eased across the face of a sitting Bob “Troll” Walsh who was reprimanded several months ago for a racially charged phone message he left his council partner Brantley?

Cecil loves being a toothache to city pols. While on a rant at the public speaking portion of the council session he misinterpreted an ill Brantley’s facial expression as dissing his remarks about sewage conditions at P.T. Barnum Apartments. Evette sought to clarify her condition by getting in Cecil’s face. Council members shouldn’t approach speakers in an aggressive manner. She did. Evette acted like a camera wasn’t on her. Cecil wasn’t buying it and hell broke lose. Angel, Marty, Richard and Tom came to her defense. Was the Troll enjoying this just a little? A video link to the fight: http://12.168.248.230/svorg/Bridgeport.html

Speaking of misinterpreted remarks, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is hoping vets throw him a life jacket as Republican challengers toss him an anchor after a NYT revelation that Dick exaggerated his Vietnam service. Dick served during the Vietnam era in the reserves but not in Vietnam. Dick sometimes has trouble correcting the record about his mighty impressive resume. He lets stuff linger he shouldn’t such as how many times has he not corrected misplaced observations that he’s Connecticut’s chief  law enforcement official with criminal prosecution oversight. As attorney general he is the state’s chief civil lawyer. No criminal prosecutorial authority. Dick is used to dishing out lots of lawsuit pain going after corporations and others he sees as a marketing monster of publicity. Now he’s going through some pain as his U.S. Senate candidacy takes a hit. How will he react?

One thing is for sure, Democratic attacks against wrestling guru Republican Linda McMahon who claims credit for feeding The Times the story will surely come sooner than later. Get ready for the steel cage match.

  2. Bob B says:

The trouble with Bridgeport, Ernie, is that there is no cohesive leadership. You have an empty suit in Bill Finch. You have wannabes on the city council. You have a 7 person legislative/senate representation that doesn’t act like a unified bloc to get Bridgeport the economic support it needs to rehabilitate itself. They just don’t get along. Thanks Mario Testa and thanks to John Stafstrom, who divided the Democratic Party into their own fiefdoms.

  3. Ernie says:

Well Bridgeport is alive and well. can;t we just get a long.

  4. Bob says:

No diffferent than State Rep Jack Hennessy stating in 2004 that he was a US Army Ranger when he was only assigned to a Ranger unit in the Connecticut National Guard. He still perpetuates that perception with a Ranger emblem on his state biography. You can look it up.
Both are liars and did it for political gain.
    I’m a Vietnam Veteran (Jul66-Jul67) and I vote.

  5. mens suit says:

Mr. Blumenthal like most politicians has gotten caught up with his own Grandeur. Although I don’t have anything negative to say about his service for the state of CT, he probably has been telling this lie to people over and over again until he started believing it himself.

  6. Al From Black Rock says:

Mr. Blumenthal has a very large Target on his back, hes the guy to beat- but if I were to vote today, I would vote Blumenthal. You can’t beat his track record!
Even Calvin has a bad day at the track.
