Where are all the Finch haters now? Where are all the vitriolic posters who condemned the mayor’s son for something that was a ridiculous arrest? This was a classic case of abuse of police power, and state prosecutors agreed, dropping charges against Pete Finch for picking up a felled street sign after a tornado hit the city and bringing it into a city bar. Cops had nothing better to do?
Will you now attack the prosecutors? Cops arrested Pete Finch because they had a beef with his father over union concessions. Bottom line: if police have a beef with the mayor don’t take it out on his family

hey len i know that you got more fans now that we know your SICILIAN….I AM just the anti-finch….mi paisian!!!
dude i wasnt makin any reference to you or your family…and god bless ya your dad is 85 an ya still got em….i was 19 when my dad died…it was rough bro…..my comments are all about the grinch i mean FINCH..LOL
Well, Cut the Fat if you talk to the Finch folks who read my daily webzine you’ll probably get a different response. My father, who is 85 years old is a Sicilian immigrant, worked his butt off, provided for his family, never in trouble with the law, a prince of a man. I’ve certainly made my share of mistakes in life, not one had anything to do with my father.
Lennie i am guessin your italian….well here is a sicilian proverb…A son pays for his fathers sins…..and that is how it is. oh and len you should get you nose out of The Mayors butt it is starting to smell in here….oh and do you think that Little Finch is real intelligent for posting F-the police too…….this is turning into a one sided blog….the wrong side
Twist this any way you want,Lenny-but Pete Finch should have not taken the sign.He was 100% wrong.Did the cops relish the chance to “stick it” to Billy boy? Probably. But technically they had the right-and duty-to arrest a thief,no matter who that person’s related to.The courts chose not to spend money prosecuting this-and why should they? The sign was recovered. There was no loss to the city. But don’t make out Peter as a victim,or an innocent in this saga.Had he left the sign where it fell,he would had avoided all this….
Lennie-
Did Peter take the street sign or not? Seems to me that the fact that the state chooses not to prosecute does not change the fact that a street sign was taken. Perhaps the Police had better things to do at the time than to be concerned about a frat style prankster who was picking up a souvinier from the big storm I agree. Its time Bpt Police started flexing some law enforcment muscle, tickets for the roll through stop, noise complaints ect.. Criminals have no respect in BPT, they keep doing their thing because they have grown to expect the police are going to let it go. look at all these shootings, it starts with the small stuff.
Peter should have left the sign on the side of the road like everyone else. Instead when confronted by police, his claim is that he was going to turn the sign into his dad.
I have a suggestion, leave it alone where you found it since your dad is pretty busy dealing with the damage caused by a tornado. If the cops did not arrest, I am sure the sign would be sitting in someones house or a bar today.
Peter’s behavior is what is ridiculous. Not the cops.
Not true Joel, the prosecutor dropped the charges in lieu of some new evidence coming to light. What could that be? Prosecutors do this to help cops save face. Pete Finch was not placed on a special form or probation. He did not enter a guilty plea. The prosecutor ruled the state has no case. Just like it had no case when some wanted you pinched for creating a public disturbance when you chopped off your finger on the steps of the state capitol.
“…This was a classic abuse of police power, and state prosecutors agreed, dropping charges against Pete Finch…”
Bullshit, Lennie! Unless, the state prosecutors said this to you. If Peter Finch gets in any more trouble within the next 13 months, the case can be tried. If the state prosecutors felt that it was “a classic abuse of police power”, why not drop the charges instead of a Nollie. Once the charges are dropped, they can’t prosecute at all.
