They’re Baaaaack!
Former Mayor Joe Ganim and former State Senator Ernie Newton spent two years in the joint together in New Jersey. Friday morning Ernie regained his voting status which enables him to seek public office. Joe is engaged in a media tour of Connecticut television stations including one that will air Sunday morning on Dennis House’s Face The State WFSB Channel 3.
There is no question Ernie will run for something. Will it be the mayoral cycle next year or his old state senate seat in 2012 currently occupied by Ed Gomes? Ernie’s going to keep the political community guessing and that’s just the way he wants it. Build a buzz, create speculation.
Joe’s a competitor and appears itching to get back in the political action. Will he? For now he’s saying I’m not really thinking about running. Translation: Joe’s keeping his options open. He currently resides on the Ganim family compound in Easton with his wife and children. Joe is completing community service while he tries to regain his law license. He’s making the media rounds sticking to his story that he didn’t do anything wrong in an effort to resuscitate his public standing. Joe may not have done so well in the witness box but he’s mighty good before a camera. The only place for a political future for Joe is Bridgeport where there is nostalgia in some city neighborhoods. Ten straight years of balanced budgets and no tax increase will do that.
Would Joe really move back to Bridgeport to run for mayor next year? If so, could he compete? If Joe can raise money he’d be competitive. Mayor Bill Finch doesn’t exactly have Democratic voters in his back pocket. But would Joe run as a Democrat? Might he say screw it, I’ll bypass the party animals and run as an independent?
Will State Rep. Chris Caruso, who lost close mayoral primaries to John Fabrizi in 2003 and Finch in 2007, give it one more crack? Caruso’s been quiet. We’ll see if he steps up his public profile after the November gubernatorial election. And what about Johnny Fabs? He’d like to have his old job back.
Oh, my, who’d have thunk the possibilities?

Sign me up to work for anyone running against Newton or Ganim. I can’t help but laugh at the guy who says look at what Newton did in my community. What community is that in the East End? That reminds me of the guy interviewed by News 12 in front of a tenement building and he was espousing the great strides his community made during Newton’s reign. What a laugh. People do get the government they deserve. Newton has paid his debt to society and has the right to run but he has nothing to show for the years of leadership if you want to call it that.
Listen to the Grinch song, and substitute Finch for Grinch ….TOO FUNNY.Someone ought to record it-I’d buy a copy!
Hes A mean one……Bill Grinch!!
Amen,to that,Kid.The stupid public actually believed Bill Finch was gonna lower taxes and give us back $600
Why would anyone vote for a convicted criminal like Ganim or Newton? These men betrayed the public trust and used their positions for personal gain. There should be a law barring them from politics. The public is too stupid to protect themselves!
Idont know why you dislike mr, newton so bad but mr, newton doesnt need your approval he has a strong base and should he decised to run his community will elected him. and i see you are a caruso lover. but you are right he cant win a primary. so it should say something the people of BPT. Dont want him to be mayor. you said nothing abou mr. ganmin but you talk about mr. newton. i wish you lived in his district and see all the things he,s done. remember every saint has a past. and every sinner has a future.
One thing for sure mr. doent need your vote to get re-elected. and your right rep caruso never made it past the primary. you are just a newton hater. like i said before his people will re-elect newton and its nothing you can say or do.and caruso wont be mayor of BPT. and by the way mr. newton served his time and if he decides to run he will win.
Big Daddy- why don’t you read the transcripts of the phone conversations that got Ernie Newton convicted of corruption? I did.The arrogance, greed, and ego of this guy was disgusting and deplorable.Totally opposite of what a “public servant” should be.Read Newton’s OWN WORDS-the real Newton’s words, since he was totally candid ,and didn’t know he was on tape. Then, you decide if he’s someone you’d want to vote for.I sure wouldn’t.And Caruso never ran for mayor, yet.Only in primaries.
Mr. how many times has Rep caruso run for mayor.Could the BPT voter.dont want him has mayor? just asking.
I really think the voters here will FINALLY reject the machine endorsed candidate-and vote for a change. After 20 plus yrs of thieves, cokeheads, boozers, and liars,I HOPE the voters will give Caruso a chance. We need an outsider (translation: someone NOT indebted to,or controlled by Uncle Mario and his buddies)to clean up this city.Caruso may not be photogenic or charismatic, but he will do what’s needed-cut waste, cronyism, and get rid of all the overpaid and underworked phonies that are bleeding us dry.Give him a shot, people.Don’t accept any more party endorsed losers. We need a change
I NOW ONE THING MR. NEWTON WILL WIN ANY OFFICE HE RUNS FOR. SO MR. EGGER YOU MAY NOT FORGIVE MR. NEWTON BUT HIS PEOPLE DO.
Oh brother,Ernie Newton back in politics? Sadly the ignorant and gullible throngs would vote this crook back into office in a heartbeat. He was an embarassment to our city for many years.I’m sure they were laughing heartily in Hartford at our city, for sending this guy to represent Bridgeport. From his “Huggy Bear” wardrobe to his mangling of the English language,he was a real black eye on our city. Not to mention he was crooked as a dog’s rear leg.
Break out the macaroni. Plenty of Political Pastabilities will bring about a real abudanza!
