From Keila Torres, CT Post:
BRIDGEPORT — Former Mayor Joe Ganim brought his two sons along Monday afternoon for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemorative march in the city’s East End.
The former city leader, who was released from prison last year, used to attend the event every year. “It’s good to be back,” Ganim said.
When asked if he would ever consider another run for office, Ganim replied: “You never know what the future holds.”
“It’s always a pleasure to be back in Bridgeport, to be in the East End,” said the Easton resident, who received several rounds of applause throughout the day from the people at the march and following ceremony.
Ganim called the day’s events “inspiring.”
“That type of inspiration can lead in so many different directions,” he said, not ruling out a move back to Bridgeport in the future.
So, would you vote for Joe?

I Grew up in Bpt….Joe brought back Safty in the City…Made it the “PARK CITY AGAIN”…and brought entertainment to this city like..Harbour Yard…and..Bpt. Arena…he had Bad people doing his Marketing…Contact me joe..I’ll never do that, and I have the experience of doing 5 Mayoral Campainges as a Media Consultant with the Ct Post…I Know you’re Dad too!..LOL
Ganim did a great deal for the city while in office. However, convicted felons in the general population face harsh employment barriers. I feel that politicians should also.
Convicted criminals should not be able to run for office. The public needs to be protected from the corrupt. We also need to get back to a two yr term,so we aren’t stuck for 4 yrs with a loser.
Put Joe and Ernie in the same boat and remind yourselves that these are convicted felons who violated the public trust.
Bridgeport is a good place for a well-intentioned ex-con to seek redemption, especially if he’s inspired by faceless strangers in the crowd. Don’t be surprised to discover the ex-cons of yesterday becoming the Mayors of tomorrow.
Are you people NUTS? You would vote for a guy that was convicted of corruption?I agree Finch must GO next year. But let’s find someone who isn’t a convicted FELON to vote for………..
COME ON JOE GIVE IT A GO…..you can beat Billy boy…..Joe we need ya man!! come on brother…BPT needs ya!!
Honestly, rather have Ganim another term than Finch!
Joe, you were a good mayor. Poor choices were made along the way, but one could see how it all happened. Your chances of winning again are strong, the people need a good mayor who will lower taxes, get our city employees to work since that is what they are paid to do. Departments within city government are poorly run, laxed in their duties and do not follow policy. But no one cares, it starts at the top, when the boss is not working hard or paying attention to detail, the employees do nothing! RESPECT is a big factor. City employees don’t care. CLEAN HOUSE!!!!!
Yes, I would vote for Joe! He was a good mayor. The city was clean, the city employees actually did some work and he brought development to the city. YES, he made mistakes, who doesn’t? He has paid for those mistakes and I am sure he will not make them again. Why would he, he lost so much time from his wife and children. was it worth it? I am certain he has learned his lesson. VOTE FOR JOE!!!!!!! I will!
Absolutely NOT.Some people think fondly of the “Ganim Years”,but truth be told? The only ones who prospered were Joe and his buddies that were taking freebies.Taxes were high-mill rates in the 60s,no jobs,no development. Not much different than today. The faces may be different, but cronyism and corruption go on in Bpt………
Say It Ain’t So Joe!!
I’m thinking of changing my name to Joe Ganim. He is indeed still popular–one can’t campaign without hearing his name constantly mentioned. I would just like for Joe Ganim to remind people of those who served with him and assisted him in turning things around.
