Frankly, I don't think ANYONE "needs" ANY of the electronic gizmos out there - smart phones, iPads, GPS's, etc. It seems to me that the general public has become conditioned to believe that every time some new item shows up on the market it's imperative to rush out and spend hundreds of dollars in order to have the "next new thing". If they feel they simplh HAVE to have these things, if only they'd wait a while the price will come down significantly. And speaking of GPS, what's wrong with using a MAP?? As for "smart phones", I don't want or need one. I don't even have a real cell phone, I bought a fourteen-dollar TracFone from WalMart with double minutes, so every time I purchase airtime I get twice the minutes for the same money. Who needs an expensive cell phone or commitment to a yearly cell phone plan? NOT ME!

I always rinse (with soap usually) before I put dishes in the dishwasher. I was raised that way. I am also pretty sure my dishwasher would not get the dishes clean if we didn't do that. I'm pretty sure my dishwasher doesn't really work and is only good for making sure the dishes actually get clean (because I don't seem to be very good at washing dishes thoroughly). But even if we got a new one, I'd keep on rinsing. So, anyway, Becky, I'm with you!

I could not agree more! We planned ahead so we were only slightly inconvenienced. Since we suffered no damage, we have nothing to complain about and much to be thankful for.

For those of us who were very lucky, we can show our thanks by donating to any worthy cause that will help those who were not as lucky. I gave to the CT Food Bank's Hurricane Sandy Virtual Food Drive.

Someone told me to just keep talking even if they are not listening. Eventually it does sink in and they begin to apply your ideas to their own life. As the "baby" of the family, I got away with A LOT more than my older siblings. I don't think we are really burnt out as parents, just older and wiser. Since we have had practice with older children... our expectations have changed for the younger one. It all works out!

Such a beautiful post! That is wonderful that your husband has cultivated such enduring friendships and I hope your kids have done the same. I'm still in touch with friends I've known since I was 5, and they remain an amazing source of support and a reality check. Whenever we get together, it's like no time has passed.

Thank you again for this post. It warmed my heart.
