Telephone wire bowl?

You may never guess it, but this spirited little bowl is woven from telephone wire. I would never have known – even after picking it up and holding it in my hand.

It’s crafted by Ilala Weavers, a 30-year-old company in Hluhluwe, South Africa, (in the province of KwaZulu Natal,) that employs more than 2,000 Zulu craftspeople who work from their homes.

The design of each bowl is unique and the colors vary, but it’s possible to request a particular color scheme. They’ll do their best to accommodate your preference. Each bowl measures 4 inches across and 2 inches deep.

$30. Ayindisa, 18 Prospect Street, Ridgefield. (203) 894-1115.
