If you take prescription sleep aids such as Ambien, you may want to play close attention to a new warning issued by the FDA before you begin your morning commute.
The government agency recently issued a safety alert, warning users of certain prescription sleep medicines, they may need to reduce their evening dosages. It turns out that the effects of some of these drugs can linger into the morning hours, impairing drivers’ judgment and abilities.
Important: The FDA warns drivers can be impacted even if they feel fully awake and are not experiencing any obvious symptoms of drowsiness.
Drugs included in the FDA’s warning include zopidem products already approved for nighttime use including Ambien, Ambien CR, Edluar and Zolpimist.
If you are taking these medications and have questions about dosing, you should also consult with your physician.
