This is completely the opposite of what I experience with my boys. The oldest boy was just recently bullied at school and I wrote an article about it to educate other mothers of what bullying behavior looks like in kindergartners and 1st graders. I do think some of the behaviors at home between siblings can contribute to whether a child is bullied or bullies others. Thanks!

Jill,

I really enjoyed reading your article. As a former perfectionist I have encountered a lot of what you have mentioned. I am a child and family development researcher/author, former pediatric nurse and nursing professor, and mom of 3 great boys. I wrote an article called 5 Ways Parents Can Help a Child Who Struggles With Perfectionism. If you are interested in reading it here it is. Thanks again for bringing this issue to light. http://kelleyward.hubpages.com/hub/5waysparentscanhelpthechildwhostruggleswithperfectionism

I guess there's a positive side to everything such as what one of the most stressful menopause symptoms can offer. Hot flashes can be really irritating but they have something good to offer as well.

Thanks for posting this, Jill. My chemo for breast cancer treatment pushed me through menopause at age 43. Then I got really severe hot flashes and night sweats. But seven years later my cancer recurred, and I still have the hot flashes. I never got a chance to go through menopause first before getting breast cancer. A very interesting study.

Interesting point on the subject. Really mood swing can have great effect on our health. It is commonly observed that many a times depressed of lone person indulge more in eating for killing time or just do it without any better alternative. It needs to be avoided.

Correction:

“…while older brothers are more likely to be hierarchical and seek to dominate these relationships and maintain this with daily bullying.”

I wonder if any of this is “learned behavior” from an adult in the family, e.g., older brother watches “a parent” yell at the younger brother for misbehavior, but the same parent gently tells the sister “you know that isn’t nice.” Do parents treat males and females differently (consciously or unconsciously), and the children observe and imitate their behavior pattern?

Exactly! Getting enough D means you can prevent viruses without getting vaccines! While getting sunlight for Vitamin D is important, you may need to supplement in the winter months. Remember, vitamin D3 is better absorbed by the body than vitamin D2. Here is an article about the best kind of vitamin D and other natural ways to boost the immune system.
