Take A Seat! Street Seats Dominate Stamford Downtown

|

streetseatscollageHey Stamford! Take a seat!

If you’ve been through the Stamford Downtown area over the last several weeks you’ve most likely seen the colorful benches placed throughout the area.  Street Seats in Stamford Downtown is a new interactive outdoor sculpture exhibit transforming the downtown into a colorful bench potpourri this summer.

The exhibit consists of 40 originally designed and painted wooden benches placed throughout Stamford Downtown and at the Stamford Town Center.  Through the talent of 33 artists, using their creativity and humor, they transformed the benches into works of art.  The benches will be on display for free public viewing and enjoyed by thousands of area residents and visitors all summer.  Upon completion of the exhibit, the benches will be auctioned with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Curtain Call and The Palace.

It took the city traffic division team, Stamford Downtown operations Events Team, two fork-lifts and a loader truck to install them.  Their installation is an event in itself and drew a crowd with very curious onlookers as each piece was hoisted from the holding area and transported via an open-air truck to its location amid ongoing activity.

Point72 Asset Management presents Street Seats in Stamford Downtown, Art in Public Places will be on display throughout Stamford Downtown during June through August, 2014.

The benches are a great idea. The variety of colors and styles is great to see. The iPhone app that they created is also a great idea – listening to the artists talk about the nenches added a whole new dimension.
