Recently, my mother sent me a link to a YouTube video that demonstrated a clever way to separate eggs. I replicated the trick and it does indeed work, so I wanted to pass it along to you.
The key is to put your egg in a shallow bowl or, as shown in this video, a rimmed plate. In order for this to work, the yolk cannot be submerged in the white, which happens in a deeper vessel like a measuring cup.
