Mexican first division soccer team Jaguares de Chiapas has a reputation for being a forward-thinking, innovative club. That makes sense, since the club has only been in existence since 2002.

Its latest bold move takes the social media craze right onto the playing field. Jaguares unveiled new jerseys on Friday that replace the names on the backs with a player’s Twitter handle.

“Conscious of the age we live in, where we can all stay in touch through the Internet without regard to distance, Jaguares launched a campaign and realized various activities linked to Twitter,” the club said on its website.

It’s believed to be the first time a professional sports team has officially used Twitter handles on jerseys. The uniforms also feature the Twitter handle of club sponsor Cerveza Sol.

“In football as in life, 140 characters are sufficient to decide which side you’re on,” the club said.

Jaguares, which aggressively pitches its social media and fan-friendly attitude on its website, sits in a tie for second in the league standings, just three points out of first place. The club seems to know what it’s doing.

McRib sandwiches contain same ingredient as yoga mats, shoe soles

Attention: Your McRib sandwich is probably not good for your heart. It has 980 mg of sodium and 10 grams of saturated fat. But then we already knew that it wasn’t exactly health food.

According to Time’s healthland blog, that’s not all it has: The sandwich contains 70 other ingredients. And some of those ingredients, such as azodicarbonamide, ammonium sulfate and polysorbate 80 are kinda gross.

From the story:

These components are in small enough quantities to be innocuous. But it’s still a little disconcerting to know that, for example, azodicarbonamide, a flour-bleaching agent that is most commonly used in the manufacture of foamed plastics like in gym mats and the soles of shoes, is found in the McRib bun. The compound is banned in Europe and Australia as a food additive. (England’s Health and Safety Executive classified it as a “respiratory sensitizer” that potentially contributes to asthma through occupational exposure.) The U.S. limits azodicarbonamide to 45 parts per million in commercial flour products, based on analysis of lab testing.

Something tells me this news isn’t going to stop people from eating the sandwich.

NBA star Durant plays in intramural flag football game on Oklahoma State campus

Kevin Durant is a star on the basketball court, no doubt. But with the NBA lockout, life was “boring” for the former UT and current Oklahoma City star.

So on Monday night, Durant became one of the most famous and wealthy intramural flag football players in the history of Oklahoma State University.

And, of course, he was a star.

In a game on campus, Durant played quarterback and corner, racking up four touchdown passes and three interceptions, he wrote on Twitter.

The night started with Durant sending out a message on Twitter that included the question, “Anybody playing flag football in okc?”

Oklahoma State student George Overbey responded, and a conversation began.

Overbey jokingly asked Durant, “can you catch.”

Not long after, they talked on the phone and Durant picked up Overbey and some friends at Overbey’s house.

“When his car pulled up at the house, I was like, this is really happening,” Overbey said in the video above. “My friends didn’t believe me.”

The blog Pistols Firing gave a great recap of the game, including several photos.

Durant led Overbey’s team, called Signma Nu B team, to the victory, and, of course, became the buzz about campus.

Reports had 500 people watching the game.

“He is the nicest guy ever,” Overbey said. “It says a lot about Kevin Durant.”

He added: It was “the coolest moment of my life.”

After all, it’s not every day that a millionaire NBA super star drops by for an average flag football game.

Certainly a Halloween night that will be remembered for a long, long time by those in attendance — including Durant.
