Pat Robertson blames marital woes on ‘awful-looking’ women

|

Pat Robertson placed blame for marital strife on women’s appearances this week, telling a teen who wrote in to Maxim Magazine about his parents’ relationship that it could be the wife’s fault.

The Huffington Post reports that Robertson decided to respond to the teen, who said his father played too many video games and didn’t pay attention to his mother, on his show, “700 Club.”

Robertson first said the wife might be too “hard-nosed” to keep the husband’s interest, then went on to discuss “awful-looking women.”

Robertson told a story about a woman who went to her pastor for marital advice, Salon.com reports. “She was awful looking. Her hair was all torn up, she was overweight and looked terrible,” Robertson is quoted as saying.

“And the preacher looked at her and he said, ‘Madam, if I were married to you, I’d start to drink too.’” Robertson adds that women can keep the spark of love alive by “fixing themselves up” and “looking pretty.”

The Daily Mail posted video of the broadcast.

There is one thing that is being overlooked in all these comments. And that is, long term marriages just don’t work. People get tired of each other. Either the wife gets tired of not having enough money or the excitement of getting “new things” or, the husband gets tired of going home to a boring relationship. I’m not blaming either party in particular, but, it’s just that, the concept of being “happy for the rest of your life” with anyone individual is a fantasy.

Even if marriage is “instituted by God”, as theologians claim, it just does not work – unless you want to “bite your lip” and “stick it out to the end”. But, is that anyway to live? I think not. And, as for all these ready made remedies that theologians spew out with ramdom precision; they are just “text book answers”.

P.S.: And good for you, Rebecca, for upholding the standards necessary to keep your husband tearing your clothes off after what one assumes are years of wedded bliss. Judging by the odd punctuation in your comment, he was tearing at your clothing as you typed.

As a man of God, Pat knows that looking pretty but not slutty is a woman’s most sacred duty.

I’m sure Mr. Robertson’s wife is a very happy one, being married to a little old impotent man.

I am astounded that anyone would agree that this huckster’s opinion might be valid.

is it not true? i’d love for an honest man to admit that when his wife stops wearing makeup, shaving her legs and underarms and wears sweats all the time….::::big shocker here:::…..he finds her UNATTRACTIVE! i’m a woman and i know that i have a standard to uphold-albeit a realistic standard. i can’t just give the hell up and expect my husband to be tearing my clothes off! and i expect the same from him.

Hairy mustached women everywhere, hairy backs or acne, cellulite tree trunk legs and slutty dressing with scary eyebrow tattooes…

Look for a few layoffs in his “contribution envelopes from misguided women” division. Not too shrewd a move from one of these “gimme money and praise the Lord” hucksters.
