New York Times photojournalist and Staples High graduate Tyler Hicks was in a shop next to Nairobi’s Westgate Mall on Saturday when militants stormed the upscale shopping center, igniting a bloody, multi-day standoff.
Hicks pulled out his camera and found his way into the mall, where he met up with police and was allowed to tag along with security forces.
As a result, Hicks was able to capture stunning and chilling photographs in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.
