Southport resident Josh Elliott is getting back into the sports business.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Elliott is leaving the anchor desk at ABC’s “Good Morning America” for a “robust role” with Stamford-based NBC Sports.

Elliott joined ABC News in 2011 after spending years with ESPN in various roles, most notably as an anchor on “SportsCenter.”

He had been involved in contract negotiations with ABC for several months. Terms of his deal with NBC have not been released, but THR reports that NBC will announce the deal this week.

Amy Robach, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and just completed her fourth round of chemotherapy, will replace Elliott on “GMA,” according to THR.
