Did anyone happen to see the super-long episode of "Modern Family" that aired Sunday evening?

Oh, wait -- my bad. That was the 2011 Emmy Awards.

"Welcome back to the Modern Family awards," host Jane Lynch joked at one point. "We've decided to throw them into the drama category just to see what happens."

The ABC comedy won five Emmys Sunday, including best comedy series and best supporting actor and actress in a comedy. The sweep was one of several surprises in an otherwise canned performance by TV's biggest stars.

The TV industry turned up its nose at Steve Carell when "Big Bang Theory" actor Jim Parsons won lead actor in a comedy. (Was that a deliberate snub aimed at the star who recently bowed out of "The Office" to concentrate on his movie career? Just a thought.)

Those familiar with Dan Savage might recognize this sentiment from his syndicated Savage Love column: "The mistake that straight people made was imposing the monogamous expectation on men. Men were never expected to be monogamous."

That's what Savage told the New York Times Magazine in a feature-length story about why he thinks infidelity is OK -- and why it can sometimes save a marriage.

The sex columnist recently fell into the national limelight with his "It Gets Better" campaign, aimed at letting troubled gay teens know there's life after bullying. Regular readers of Savage Love won't be shocked to hear that he's advising couples to allow occasional infidelities -- as long as they're honest with their partners and don't bring any diseases home.

But after hotly-debated displays of infidelity from Congressman Anthony Weiner and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the debate does seem timely.

Did you happen to catch the Robert Pattinson show Sunday on MTV? What did they call that show pre-Pattinson? The MTV Movie Awards, I think.

Pattinson kissed and swore his way through the evening, insinuating at one point that his before-the-show prep might have had some help from a buddy named Jose Cuervo.

“Tequila is like a Lay’s potato chip,” Pattinson said. “It’s impossible to have just one.”

Or two. Or three, apparently.

Pattinson’s antics were too much for MTV’s censors, who failed to catch an f-bomb he dropped while presenting actress Reese Witherspoon with her MTV “Generation” award.

If you tuned into the MTV Movie Awards Sunday -- sorry, I meant the Robert Pattinson show --you know everyone's favorite teen vampire was on a tequila-fueled roll.

Pattinson locked lips with "Twilight" costar Taylor Lautner and said some generally odd things during his many trips across the stage, including an an uncensored f-bomb while introducing actress Reese Witherspoon.

"I did (bleep) you," he said about their roles in the film "Water for Elephants."

(Hey, look, MTV -- my censorship button is working just fine.)
