Matthew Broderick teases Ferris Bueller Super Bowl ad

by:

Bueller? Bueller? The web is abuzz that Ferris himself may return during the Super Bowl, or maybe even to theaters, after a cryptic video was posted on YouTube today.

The video shows Matthew Broderick throwing open some curtains and asking, “How can I handle work on a day like today?” The very Bueller “Oh Yeah” song by Yello plays as the date of the Super Bowl is flashed. Is the tease for a big-budget ad or maybe even a much-belated sequel? The former is more likely than the latter, but we’ll just have to see. A note posted with the video says, “We hate to be such a tease, but on a day like today, we just have to. Stick it out until the Super Bowl, or take a ‘day off’ on Monday and catch the big reveal.”

A star is born: New dad freestyles to fetal monitor

by:

As he waited for his new son to arrive in the delivery room, U.S. Air Force Sgt. Charles McDaniel didn’t pick up a magazine or grab the TV remote.  Instead, he filled the room with a freestyle rap to the cadence of the fetal monitor, MSNBC is reporting:

McDaniel, an Air Force staff sergeant based in Aviano, Italy, noticed that the monitor, which had slipped out of place, was pulsing in a rhythmic beat. While waiting for medical staff to fix the problem, the father-to-be decided to distract his wife, LaQuita, from her contractions with a little freestyle rap.

“I just, you know, started singing,” said McDaniel, 32, who hails from Houston.

More precisely, he launched into a riff on contractions, cervical dilation and other delivery-related issues, all with the aim of welcoming son Kingston Josiah into the world.

McDaniel’s new-baby rap video had been viewed more than 150,000 times on YouTube as of Thursday morning.

Mayor’s plan to help Latinos: ‘I might have tacos’ for dinner

by:

Original video from wpix.com.

On the day where four East Haven police officers, including the local police union leader, were charged by federal authorities with civil rights abuses against Latino members of the community, the town’s mayor made stunning remarks to a New York-based TV crew.

WPIX11′s Mario Diaz asked Mayor Joseph Maturo, “What are you doing for the Latino community today?”

The mayor, a Republican who defeated Democrat incumbent April Capone by a slim 34 vote margin in November, replied, “I might have tacos when I go home, I’m not quite sure yet.”

Diaz said the mayor apologized for his comments and said it was “out of context.”

During the interview, Maturo also said he didn’t “get (Diaz’s) point” when the reporter stated there is only one Spanish-speaking officer in the 50-member department in a community with a large Latino population.

The community of 28,000 set along the Long Island Sound shoreline, has seen its Latino population double in the past decade, creating racial tensions, according to advocates of the Latino population.

The town first came into the spotlight in 2009, when a local priest, Father James Manship, was arrested while videotaping police officers allegedly harassing owners of a Latino market. Manship, whose parish is mainly Latino, became a loud voice against the town’s police department.

Maturo, first elected in 1997, served as the town’s Mayor for 10 years before losing to Capone in 2007. It took a recount for him to lose his seat, and another recount, this time in his favor, to get the top spot in town hall back in 2011.

Capone, who refused to publicly support the police department during the federal investigation and suspended police chief Leonard Gallo, was given a no-confidence vote by the town’s police department prior to her loss to Maturo.

Upon taking office, Maturo put Gallo back in charge and said he didn’t believe the police department had done anything wrong.

Tuesday, federal agents arrested four town police officers, Dennis Spaulding, David Cari, and Jason Zullo and Sgt. John Miller, accusing them of executing unreasonable search and seizures, making false arrests and using intimidation against local religious leaders, members of the Latino community, fellow police officers and police commissioners investigating them.

The four men have entered not guilty pleas. U.S. Attorney David B. Fein says the investigation is open and ongoing, and more arrests may be made.

Maturo said Tuesday he stands by his officers and police department.

Take a little break to watch some extreme Yosemite

by:

Yosemite HD from Project Yosemite on Vimeo.

If you need a reminder of how beautiful nature is, we found it. This Project Yosemite video, a time-lapse collaboration between two guys, Sheldon Neill and Colin Delehanty, who just had an idea to shoot Yosemite in time-lapse photos:

We were complete strangers before it all started, but after we met on Vimeo our idea came into sight, and then began the challenge to make numerous trips to YNP where we would capture the beautiful landscape it offers for visitors every year.

They may do some future projects, so we recommend you bookmark their site.

Worst performances of the National Anthem

by:

Nobody likes an excruciating National Anthem to start our ball games. Even the high-profile Super Bowl performers can screw it up. Remember Christina Aguilera last year in Dallas?

An Indiana legislator tried to put the kibosh on the fancier performances. The kind of thing Prince Joseph may have told Mozart had “simply too many notes.” She pushed for a state law requiring any performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” in any public place performed in its entirety and without embellishment.

But it didn’t get out of committee in Indianapolis. So we’re stuck with the ridiculous self expression, forgotten words and just plain tragedy.

This year the pressure is on Burleson, Texas, singer Kelly Clarkson to get it right at the Super Bowl in Indianapolis.

So what’s your favorite worst rendition of the U.S. National Anthem?

Teen asks for boycott of Girl Scout cookies over transgender controversy

by:

Screen grab from the teen’s video (Gothamist)

The debate over a transgender youth joining the Girl Scouts has flared up again, and now your Thin Mints are at stake.

Back in October, transgender 7-year-old Bobby Montoya was first rejected, then eventually accepted by a Denver Girl Scout troop. Now, a group calling itself Honest Girl Scouts has published a web site and issued statements decrying the move.

The most controversial statement came in the form of a nearly 8-minute YouTube video message from a California teen Girl Scout. The video has since been made private on YouTube. But the Christian Post published this excerpt from the teen’s missive:

“Why is GSUSA willing to break its own safety rules and go against its own Research Institute findings to accommodate transgender boys?” the girl asks. “Unfortunately, I think it is because GSUSA cares more about promoting the desires of a small handful of people than it does for my safety and the safety of my friends and sister Girl Scouts.”

According to Gothamist:

She accuses the group of “not being honest” with her, her family, her Scout sisters, and the American public, makes the case that “it’s not safe to hide boys in Girl Scouts.”

Should the Girl Scouts bow to the pressure? And is it even possible to boycott Girl Scout cookies?

Video supposedly shows Marines urinating on dead militants

Marine video

Screen grab from a video that appears to show Marines relieving themselves on dead insurgents.

An extremely disturbing video purportedly showing U.S. Marines urinating on the corpses of insurgents was posted on numerous websites Wednesday.

The 39-second graphic video on TMZ, YouTube and other sites shows four men dressed in what appear to be Marine sniper uniforms exposing their genitals and desecrating the bodies. One of them can be heard saying, “Have a great day, buddy,” while another says, “Golden like a shower.”

The unknown person who posted the video on YouTube included the caption “scout sniper team 4 with 3rd battalion 2nd marines out of camp lejeune peeing on dead talibans.”

TMZ reported that the Marine Corps has not verified the authenticity or origin of the video, but would launch an investigation into the incident.

Facebook app allows you to have your “last word”

by:

Social media sites have turned into memorials after people die, but what if you could say something from the grave?

A new Facebook app, appropriately dubbed “If I die,” allows Facebook users to create a video or a text message that will appear after they die.

The app works by picking three trustees from your Facebook friends list who will receive a message asking them to confirm your death. After all three confirm the user’s passing, a pre-recorded video or written message will be published on the user’s Facebook wall.

So a bit creepy, right?

The app was developed by an Israel-based startup company that say it specializes in “time capsule services and products.”

Here is a look at the app:
