This is not a fixed variable, so the results of the research would be clearly open for debate. There is no single definition of how to define racism. Studies on human behavior are subjective – not objective, and inherent flaw if claims of a conclusion are made.

If you think that criminals and crazy people can’t easily buy handguns without a background check, go to a gun show and talk to a gun seller who has registered as a “gun collector.” He doesn’t have to do a background check on anyone he sells guns to. He can sell anyone boxes and boxes of cheap handguns without a background check. Check it out for yourself if you don’t believe me. This is the political power of the NRA. I guess they figure that if people know criminals can easily get guns, people will decide they need one for self defense, then robbers will be sure to carry guns to avoid being shot by homeowners, …so the gun manufacturers will make lots of $$. It does not mention a motive for the attacks this year or years past. The students attacked happened to make a signature pose after winning? Why do we assume this was why they were attacked? Why were they attacked last year even though there was no “Tebow move?”

That he says about Giffords and her husband is at best foolish, and in any sense undeserved and bizarre. Why not blame Sarah Palin for putting out her irresponsible “gunsight” hit list against Democrats, which had Giffords on it, and which Giffirds had, ironically, confronted Palin.

In addition, he refused to meet President Obama because he opposes the President’s policies, which was dumb (and rude): had he met the President he could have confronted those policies directly.

Most bizarre, though, is his attack upon Giffords’ husband for not providing security. Giffords’ husband has not held public office, and did not hold public office at the time of the shooting, so had neither authority nor means to provide security.

Were he in his right mind — and certainly grief can distort one’s thinking — he might be blaming Palin (who immediately upon hearing of the shooting took down her “hit list,” on her own assumption that that was the cause or inspiration for the shooting). Or he might place the responsibility more directly, on the gun industry, and or on its non-profit tax-exempt front the NRA and its false propaganda, and or the Congress for its decades of failure on the issue*, or even on the deranged shooter.

In fact, there was a form of “security” at the Giffords political rally at which the shooting occurred. A person with a “conceal carry” permit arrived during the shooting, with his gun in his pocket. It was exactly the sort of circumstance for which he had the gun. But he didn’t pull it out of his pocket becasue he realized that, were the cops to arrive while he was shooting at the shooter, they would have concluded that he was a second shooter and shot him and asked questions later.

So he might as well have left his gun at home, or not had it to begin with.

I hope this particular victim most heals his confusion, becasue of which he hatefully misuses the horrific experience to political ends by bashing those not responsible for the incident, when instead he could be acting constructively. But I believe that is unlikely, that he is confused about who to blame because his “ultra-conservative” views concerning guns are those promulgated by the NRA, the propaganda of which resulted in the loose availability of guns. It is that loose availability that resulted in his being shot and his wife killed.

I feel bad for anyone who was shot or lost anyone in this ugly episode of gun violence, but it’s the wrong time to let your political views twist you into this kind of hate speech. As for security, if there’s a reason to be concerned about your safety at a public event, then why go? And if you didn’t see a need for security before you went to attend a neighborhood meeting in a quiet area of Tucson, a lovely city, why inflict your after the fact guilty accusations on others.

Given his political leanings, you have to be surprised he wasn’t satisfied with the security provided by the several licensed to carry concealed weapons people who showed up packing.

I can only blame the shooter and a culture that allows guns to be so easily available. That’s a “conservative” demand backed by endless NRA money. It’s hardly the first time we’ve seen gun violence in unexpected places.

Sometimes it’s just easier to hate than deal with the fact you were wrong.

We are not each other’s enemies concerning that tragedy; rather, the enemy is a deranged murderer and the problem was a refusal of law enforcement to have arrested Jared Lee Loughner during all of the previous encounters that they had with him concerning his drug use and possession, and his numerous instances of threatening conduct toward others. A simple arrest, conviction, mandatory mental assessment and the certain diagnosis of schizophrenia would have red flagged Laughter to be refused a legal sale of firearms at the point of attempted purchase. Perhaps this man should vent his outrage toward the police who could have taken Loughner off the streets many months earlier before he festered into a mass murderer.

Another bitter man who bills himself as “very liberal” said that he and his wife were survivors of the shooting and that he is sick of hearing about the Congresswoman and is critical of her for not using this tragedy to promote more useless gun control. Ironically though, he accepts invitations for interviews just so that he can complain about having to “relive” the memory because the media supposedly won’t leave him alone.

I can make financial decisions that have an expectable outcome. If I plant high yield crops and harvest them on time, I will make money. If I let them wither and die, I will lose my investment. In my real life, things are not so regular. I get overwhelmed sometimes by the vicissitudes of life. People do and say things that are untrue and make me feel bad, and clutter accumulates that seems beyond my control. I never have enough money, no matter how much I work. I am with twelve-year olds all day, and they are the least predictable humans I’ve yet encountered. I find it relaxing and calming to spend a half an hour in the evening on my farm, bringing order to this little environment. On my farm I am in control, and that feeds something in me. I still cook good meals most days and I make a point of getting out and moving my body in real life. I do things with my friends and family, and I love to go out to the Sacramento River as often as the water level will permit it. My farm doesn’t replace anything essential in my real life. It just provides a little time out that I like at the end of the day.

It was in this situation that a TV reporter, with camera, approached a woman who had just been reunited with her lost child, and asked her how she felt. Her answer? “Yes! God is Good!.”

Curiously, while I am a democrat, I do agree with the previous post (posted by “republican”). You are legal for purchasing firearms, getting married, obtaining a mortgage, voting, and most importantly: dying for your country…yet you cannot enjoy a beer. There is something wrong with that.
