Happy Holidays to All!

I’m signing off for a week of rest, relaxation and family — not in that order. Hope you and yours have some time this next week, no matter what rituals you do or don’t celebrate, to appreciate each other and feel blessed. See you in 2011 for more home decor blogging!

Top Three Thursdays

A little flavor of the season kicks off today’s Top Three Thursday on Etsy. These Chrismasy pillow covers  from Leni Designs with snowflakes are just wonderful. They’re suggestive of winter and the holidays without being cloying. Very very nice. Cost for one organic cotton cover, 40 cm X 40 cm, is about $18.81 USD.

How about this clever idea? End tables made from books. This is one of those items that I see and think — wrongly — “I could do that,” and then of course I don’t. Just love the idea, though. Available at Tytie‘s shop, they come in various sizes and are $350 each.

And finally this upcycled, cool frame/key holder from Resplendid‘s shop. The gilded glass features layered frosted leaves. The vintage frame was salvaged from a box at an antique shop. It has three helpful hooks (does not come with the antique keys, although they fit perfectly there and make me want to hang them on that holder). Frame is 11.75″ X 9.75″. Price is $50

Sweet Sofa

Ooh I wish this was available Stateside, but sadly I will have to lust for it from afar. This Mabel sofa was designed by Donna Wilson for SCP and is covered with a mix of natural fibers. The legs are turned beech. I love the shape and the colors. I’m a big fan of mix-and-match upholstery and have a few chairs like that in our home.

What do you think? A Yea or a nay?

Our Anthropologie Fix

Stopped by Anthropologie to see what was what and fell in love with a bunch of these cups. While I’m mostly a mug kind of gal, these cups made me consider other options. They had me at the design and colors. Love them. All. What about you? Any grab your fancy? They run in the $12 range each. Sigh.

Top Three Thursdays

Today’s first choice on Top Three Thursdays is meant to show anyone who thinks Etsy is just for craftspeople making crocheted items the real breadth of what’s on this fabulous website. Take a gander at this.

It is made with four different types of hardwood — Peruvian Maple, Satinwood, Birdseye Maple and Hard Maple — and this stands 5 feet tall,
5 feet 1½ inches wide and 24 inches deep. Check out the beveled mirror in the center. In a word, this is amazing. The price — $15,000 — is as well, but this is art so I’m not surprised. If you want to see more furniture by the same artisan, go to GArt Furniture shop. Be prepared to be awestruck.

Okay, now back to the pursestrings most of us open. This vintage Boston map cushion pillow cover is a conversation piece that would make a nice gift for someone with Boston ties, don’t you think? It’s made from organic cotton and is available at My Bearded Pigeon for $49.95.

And finally, how about this lovely small, carved decorated bowl from Leili Design. I just love the black dots and the contrasting blue color. Really striking. Price is $90 for this one-of-a-kind wonder.

The Art of Giving Art

Giving art as a gift can be risky business. You think you know what someone would like, but then what if you are totally wrong? On the other hand, it can be so personal and thoughtful. It shows such love for someone because you took so long to pick out the very thing that you think will have meaning for someone. When you score, you score big I think. Art can also be pricey but that’s the beauty of this 20X200, a website that offers art at affordable prices. The site features at least two new editions a week: one photo and one work on paper. Most are available in three or four sizes. When it first launched, the smallest size was reprinted in the largest batch — an edition of 200 — and sold at the lowest price — $20. Hence the name 20×200. Now the site also offers 11″x14″ editions of 500 for $50, 16″x20″ editions of 20 for $200, 20″x24″ editions of 50 for $500, 24″x30″ editions of 10 for $1,000 and 30″x40″ editions of 2 for $2,000. Every single print is delivered with a numbered certificate of authenticity that is signed by the artist, the artist’s bio and statement, and instructions for caring for your print. I love how this brings art to the masses. Could be just the thing for that special someone on your list … Here are a few samples to show you the many possibilities.
