Light Up Your Life

I found these cool lantern candle holders over at Clayton Gray Home, one of my favorite websites to stop by and visit. These metal and wood industrial lanterns come in three sizes and would make a great accent piece alone or in this grouping of three. If these don’t grab your fancy or your wallet, troll the rest of the site. There’s always something beautiful at Clayton Gray Home and they update their goodies constantly. Prices for the lanterns range from $175 to $325.

Top Three Thursdays

Furniture is the theme in this week’s Top Three Thursdays on Etsy and up first is an amazing conversation piece from LimLo Design’s shop. I thought it perfectly illustrates the creativity and incredible talent that is on Etsy. The photo will show you exactly what I mean.

Called the amp chair — maybe because it looks a little like an ampersand? — it is made entirely of wood with no fasteners or glue. It’s just dowels fit together. The creator, LimLo Design, suggests the chair is best used with a partner. Here’s one way to sit on it together.

The chair measures roughly 4′ wide x 1′ deep x 4.5′ high, although since it’s custom made, you can ask for other dimensions. Price is $1,000, shipping included.

This is clearly a tough act to follow, but this contemporary hand-painted console from Mausart’s shop is impressive as well. Her shop features mostly original paintings, but she has some furniture pieces. For this console, she placed the canvas on the top and then painted on it with acrylics. The result is a one-of-a-kind table for sure. Price is $825, plus shipping.

Lest you get the idea everything on Etsy is high-end, here’s a sample of something more rustic: an upcycled cedar fan back bench from True Connection. It’s the kind of bench that would complement your garden and you’d never worry about the weather, given the materials. The bench measures 4′  X 16-18″ X 18″ tall. Back is 44″ High. It seats three comfortably, according to the shop owner. Price is $175 with free shipping.

Toddler Time

If you’re in the market for a toddler bed that grows with your child and want to be ec0-friendly, you might consider this one at Branch Home. It’s designed by Kalon Studios and is made of solid bamboo with non-toxic glues and wood oils. The sides are 54″ wide X 13″ deep X 11″ tall.  As your child grows, you simply remove the sides of the crib and replace them with these panels. Quite the affordable option when you realize you get two for the price of one. Sides come square and sloped. Price starts at $545, plus shipping

A Couch of a Different Stripe

We’re about to hand over our Pottery Barn couch that has served us well for nearly 20 years to a good friend and inherit a couch from my in-laws’ home that is in need of reupholstering. I’ve got my eye on fabics, then, bigtime as I ponder what we’ll do with this lovely couch. This striped sofa from Anthropologie caught my eye specifically for the fabric. While it wouldn’t work for our living room, I’m a big fan of kilim and have a few rugs in our home. I just love the color and textures here; they go so well with the simple, clean lines of the sofa, don’t you think? Price is $2,498 at Anthropologie.

Calling all Herbs

It’s Monday so I think we need a little pick-me-up and something a little silly. I headed over to Fred Flare, home of lots of silliness for the home and elsewhere in your life, and came across these herb-growing tater pots. Each porcelain pot is 2.5″ X 3″ and comes with soil and seed. You’ll be able to grow basil, oregano or mint — or all three, of course, if you splurge on the trio. Imagine how much nicer it would be to do dishes with these happy fellows winking back at you from the window ledge. Price for one is $14.

Ink Blot Test Anyone?

Uniform Natural is a Minneapolis-based company dedicated to making sustainable clothing and, now, pillows for the home. This new line of pillows reminds me of the ink blots of Rorschach test ilk. The pillows featured here are $98 each and are very eco-friendly. The stuffing is made from recycled bottles while the covering is all-natural linen.

Top Three Thursdays

It’s blustery and snowy as I write this in the Northeast, which has me alternating between thinking cozy thoughts and pining for warm weather and the spring that will be coming … some day. This rustic candleholder from Auracuna Design’s Etsy shop caught my eye and seemed like a good opener for Top Three Thursday, my weekly celebration of all things Etsy. It’s made from old cedar fence posts, barbed wire and barn wood, and is 20″ long and 11″ wide. I think it would work outside on a patio (the warm weather thought) or inside in front of a fireplace or on a mantle (the cozy indoor thought) of a family room or more casual space. Added bonus is the eco-friendly way it’s made, using reclaimed items. Price is $45.

The next Etsy seller’s item clearly is satisfying my need to think warm weather is not too far off.

This lovely fused glass bird bath is available in Glorious Glass Garden’s shop and features fluted edges and a copper stand that will gradually get the lovely patina copper gets when exposed to air and water. Size is 7″ in diameter. The state is 36″ tall. $48 each. I can see myself sitting on the patio now!

And finally this funky bird feeder in Joe Papendick’s shop that will make the birds getting fed and the people watching the art in their yard equally happy. Made from reinforced steel and copper, the feeder is 6′ tall and meant to be “planted” in the ground about 8-10 inches. I just love the shape and think they would make lovely accents in any backyard. Price is $175.

Gorgeous Chairs

Holly Becker of Decor8, one of the best home decor and design blogs in the blogosphere — seriously check it out if you haven’t and then bookmark it. You won’t be sorry — wrote about these chairs last week and I was completely blown away. They’re from Carl Hansen & Son and apparently the company, in honor of its 60th anniversary, is launching a new color every few months.  I couldn’t resist reposting. Next up is green. Unbelievably beautiful. $930 each.
