Top Three Thursdays

Today is typography day at Top Three Thursdays on Etsy. Why? Because I’m a font freak and I just felt like it. I just love old signs and letterpress stuff and think letters are art unto themselves. So here’s a sampling in no particular order of a variety of Etsy goodies in case you’ve got the same problem I do.

Vintage 24" letter, $40

This vintage R is was available at Blue Flower Vintage‘s shop, which features vintage signs as well as other vintage goodies. Yup, I bought it. Happy Mother’s Day to me and too bad for you. :)

On to something I haven’t bought — although I was sorely tempted. There are ampersands galore on Etsy. This striking one in Helvetica and made by Hindsvik caught my eye for obvious reasons. Talk about making a statement! It’s about three feet tall and available in a variety of colors. Each is made to order. Price is $125. If you don’t like this one, he makes other custom letters as well.

And finally, a sign to for Homer Simpson or anyone who wants to make a statement in their office, loft or other large space. This vintage industrial sign is 9 feet L X  4″ deep X 2 feet tall and is available in Joe Vintage‘s shop. Price is $850. He also has some very cool restored vintage typewriters. (Google it kids. It’s the way people used to write.)

Farmhouse Style

Holly Becker over at Decor8 (amazing home decor blog that you should immediately bookmark if you’re not a regular reader) wrote a fabulous post about farmhouse style. Check it out if you haven’t read it already. Holly also gave a shout out to Dreamy Whites in the column, and I just drooled when I clicked through to her shop, so here you are. She features French farmhouse goodies, many of them antiques. This antique zinc bottle carrier is just one of the many items I wanted. I love the idea of using this as a desk organizer. Price is $130.

Basically I just want to be working at this desk. I mean who wouldn’t?

Farfetched? Not.

If you’re into antiques, you should check out FarFetchers. A repository for antique dealers from around the world, this Seattle-based web company has new deals coming on every day. You can troll their many, many items for sale, become a dealer yourself and post your items there, or post something you’re looking for and get help finding it. Here are just a few of the items that caught my eye, starting, of course, with some fabulous chairs.

Pair of Pierre Jenneret Scissor Chairs

Snead Designed Pendant Lamps, $300

Late 19th/Early 20th Century Dentist Cabinet, $4,435

Jayson Home and Garden

Thanks to Grace Bonney over at Design*Sponge, a favorite blog of mine, I learned about Jayson Home and Garden. So now I’m passing on the good news to you. The company, which is based in Chicago, offers interesting and unique furnishings and accessories for the home. Happily, for those of us who don’t live near the Windy City, the company has a large online store. An online flea market is among their many departments, where you can find all sort of gently used/reclaimed products in a wide price range. Here are just a few samples of what I found in the curiosities section. Happy clicking!

Each antique vintage oval enamel is unique. Price is $15 each.

Antique silkscreen bamboo fire screen would make a lovely cover for a fireplace in the summer. $795

Vintage suitcase, perfect for storage AND interesting displays, $695

Farm Fresh Furniture

Thanks to Design*Sponge yet again for hooking me up to something fabulous, this time the farmhouse-inspired furniture of Bradford Woodworking. The creator, the eponymous Bradford, grew up on a farm so he makes his furniture, some of it more whimsical than others, using that life as inspiration. Here is his pitchfork side chair, which is made of solid ash turned on a century old ax handle lathe. The seat is solid cherry. There are a couple of variations on this one: swivel versus not; counter height versus bar height versus dining height. Price is $380 per chair. Love it!

Top Three Thursday

It’s Etsy time my friends! Let’s see what this wonderful online crafty department store holds for this week’s Top Three Thursday. First up is this flip-side pillow from Show Pony’s shop. What a great idea! Rather than switch up your pillows seasonally, you can just turn it over. Plus it’s made from organic cotton. She also uses water-based inks to screen print her fabric. Sweet. Price is $38 for the cushion cover (pillow is up to you to purchase) plus shipping. She also has a second shop on Etsy for items she claims are not quite up to snuff. Check it out here.

Although I went through a crochet phase when I was taking a break from knitting, I’m really not much of a fan now. However, these natural crocheted linen placemats stopped me cold. They’re handmade of course and machine washable, although you should air dry them. They’re available at Linen Me and are $19.99 each. She also makes scarves and other linens for the home, such as towels and bed sheets.

As someone who’s in the word and publishing business, I’ve got kind of a thing for fonts. Combine that with my love of history and it’s not surprising I’ve always coveted the old printers’ wood type. (I’ve bid, and lost, on several on ebay.) Needless to say, I was excited to find this piece of art for sale at Turner’s Collectibles. The pieces are not glued in place so you could have some fun recreating your own art as the mood inspired you. I always think I’ll find some of these in an antiques or used furniture shop but never do. Maybe I’ll just have to buy this one! Price is $215 and the size is 15″ X 9.5″.
