The Stratford Red Devils field a very talented team for 2007. If the line can open holes for Tory and OX and the defense can STEP UP, a second try at a State title will be theres to win or lose! Even though they play in the SWC Patriot Division, they get my vote for a Top Ten Position!
The team is learning HOW TO WIN!!!

Hey Sean (SPB), forget about what we think – where do you think the rankings will shake out? Also – top two picks in FCIAC, SWC and NVL. Sorry to put you on the spot.

  4. SPB says:

You’ll get mine in the Connecticut Post preview. I’m still collecting data from all the coaches and I’d like to have all the info before I make official picks. However, put on the spot this early in the preseason (with only a fraction of team prospectuses in), here they are:

    FCIAC–Greenwich, Staples (this could change)
    SWC–Stratford, Pomperaug
    NVL–Ansonia, Woodland
    SCC–Shelton, Cheshire

If Staples and Greenwich get lined up in the FCIAC Championship when and where do u think it will be played

  6. SPB says:

If it’s Staples/Greenwich in the FCIAC title game, I’m 99.9 percent certain they’ll shift it to the scheduled site on Thanksgiving. That was my understanding last year.

This actually happened in 2001 when it was Greenwich and Danbury duking it out for the title. The teams, who were paired up on Thanksgiving at the time, used their Thanksgiving game as the FCIAC.

They don’t do that in the SWC, which is kind of ridiculous. I have mixed feelings about these title games to begin with. I love and hate them.

  7. Phil says:

Its a shame that people still count out Masuk in the SWC title hunt when they are returning people who played significant playing time. Yes, they have had some internal issues and it has been an emotional ride straight into the season, but these Panthers have a huge Offensive Line, and starting to see people playing two sides of the ball more often. This team looks like they will be building from their offensive line out this year when we will be seeing their Rock offense put into effect. yes, pompy still does dominate the running game regardless of who they play over the past few years with the system drury put in but the boys up front at masuk are going to be pushing that much harder. This is a very small team with Palmer at quarterback but i have not seen a kid this athletic in a long time. Look for the panthers to be banged up right up until the first if not second game of the season but i have my pick on the panthers at the SWC Championship facing off against, Stratford.

Who’s counting out Masuk? They go, like, 10-0 or 9-1 in the SWC every year.
