Two of our regional leagues have realigned for 2007, the SWC and the NVL. Here’s a quick look at the two:
With the addition of Nonnewaug, Here is the divisional alignment for the SWC for 2007.
Colonial (Large): Bunnell, Masuk, Pomperaug, Newtown, New Milford, Bethel, Brookfield
Patriot (Small): Stratford, Nonnewaug, Immaculate, Barlow, Weston, Notre Dame-Fairfield, New Fairfield.
The NVL has also realigned, ditching the small-large school designations and divvying up the league by Thanksgiving rivals.
Here’s the alignment: Division I: Holy Cross, Kennedy, Naugatuck, Sacred Heart, Torrington, Woodland. Division II: Ansonia, Crosby, Seymour, Watertown, Wilby, Wolcott.
No word yet on when and where the NVL title game will be. If anyone knows for sure, please email me at sbowley@ctpost.com.
The FCIAC will, once again, use a one-division power point system for its FCIAC championship game, which is screwy because the small schools don’t play anywhere near the same kind of schedules as the larger schools, i.e there isn’t a uniform criteria for all the schools.
They have to find a 20th member or dump a school to get this mess sorted out.

I’m not sure where the 20th FCIAC member would come from. Why not just for football break down the FCIAC into Large and Small and have 2 Championship games (if need be).

I actually love this idea, Dan.
They did it this way in the SCC–by enrollment with historical modifiers, but without the championship games.
Short of disbanding all leagues and going to enrollment-based districts (another idea I love), this is the way superconferences should be classified. IT also allows for crossovers for those large/small school matchups we’d like to see.
Also, there should only be three state championship divisions.
Why is the five best teams in the swc…Masuk, Bunnell, Pomperaug, Newtown, and Brookfield all in the same division???????? I think they should even it out so the swc championship will have the best teams playing
The SWC divisions are divided into large and small schools, but they have nothing to do with the league championship standings. Those are determined by points similar to the CIAC’s playoff points.
So, basically, teams from the same division can meet in the title game, as they did last year. Not all the teams in the division, however, meet each other, rather the schedule is rotated over several years.
