Confident? Yes. Cocky? No chance

by:

Just an observation I have after reading/listening to several other reports on tonight’s Central-Greenwich bowl at Kennedy Stadium.

Everybody, let’s ease ease up on stirring the pot using the comments made by the Central side.

The feeling I’m getting from a few others across the FCIAC goes something like: Man, Central’s got nerve! How dare they talk up to the defending Class LL and FCIAC champs!

I read what Central is saying, I hear what they’re talking about. That’s not what they’re doing.

They believe they can win, they’re not going nuts, they’re not saying stuff like, “Greenwich couldn’t carry our water and they stink. We’re going to win the FCIAC easily…” and all of that stuff.

Are they confident? Sure. If you want to beat Greenwich, you have to convince yourself you can do it. But they’re not baiting Greenwich. They’re not being disrespectful. There’s a difference, so… just, everybody be careful on how you interpret this.

I mean, after Greenwich wins 42-6, if I hear one Greenwich player, coach or media personality go off on how they wanted to shut Central up, that the Cardinals did their talking on the field, yada, yada, yada, I’m going to be sick.Let’s not make this more than it is.

That goes for everybody.

Anyway, little rant before the season.

Thanks

These comments are a little late, I know, but I couldn’t let poor judgement and inconsistency go unaddressed. Central football deserves much more respect from those of you who go to work there on State Street. For some reason you failed to give them a chance in last weekend’s matchup against Greenwich (42-6????). And the words by the journalist who covered the game “…after Greenwich spotted Central a 6 point lead…” are ridiculous. Greenwich is quite fortunate to have won that game. Why must Greenwich have somehow faltered instead of Central display great tact and execution? Granted, they have a championship tradition and they set a standard in the FCIAC, but for a number 2 ranked team to be winning 7-6 at halftime says one of two to things: either Greenwich is not as strong as the media gushes, or Central is a force to be reckoned with in the FCIAC. The Hillptoppers moved the ball up and down the field with relative ease. Too bad you missed the game.

And how do you choose West Haven for the Elite 8 when Central defeats them soundly in a scrimmage 52-36? I’m just wondering. It seems like tradition is playing too much of a factor in the assessment of teams in our area. In a few weeks we will see what teams truly are the better squads. I would love for Greenwich to go to Florida and represent the state well. But please, choose the right game and the right words when covering what could be a very good Central team this year.
