…But at least The Day of New London gives out their poll the same time it’s released. The New Haven Register, as usual, gathers all of the media’s opinions and then hordes its poll like it contains the secret formula for Coke.
Anyway, after much searching, here it is:
1. Ansonia (No shock)
2. Greenwich (no shock)
3. West Haven (shock. A little high for my tastes. I guess we’ll see tonight)
4. Staples (ok…)
5. Shelton (ok…)
6. Southington (ok…)
7. New London (ok…)
8. Masuk (ok…)
9. Stratford (ok… I had Bunnell ahead of the Devils and Masuk, but ok)
10. New Canaan (At least this is lower than the 4 the coaches saw fit to bestow it. I still think this is high. People! Lou Marinell returns a few linemen and a good, but first-year staring QB. He’s not a miracle worker. New Canaan will be one of the top FCIAC teams, as low as 6 by my estimation. But they’re not top 10 in the state. Not until they prove their graduation losses (which were many) were negligible by beating somebody like Ridgefield.
Until then, we have to put teams like Maloney (Johrone Bunch), Fairfield Prep, Bloomfield, Bunnell, Cheshire…. etc ahead of them.
I ranked Cheshire high, and they barely got a whiff. Here’s a confession: I also forgot all about Maloney. This is why polls are stupid. Ignore everything but the obvious entertainment value of No. 1 through 3.
