This is an absolute classic from Quick and Cavallo on MSG responding to a letter by “Frank” from Ansonia who wants the Chargers to go play Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey and giving us a little trivia (one I’d forgotten about) on former Ansonia coach Jack Hunt.

It is fair to have the opinion that Don Bosco would beat Ansonia (or Greenwich, or any top CT team for that matter).
These MSG guys watch a lot of high school football and in general, yes, NJ is better top to bottom that CT is.
But it is not so far out of the realm of possibility that “Frank” should be made to seem like a fool for suggesting it.
There are years when the top CT team could hold its own against Don Bosco, maybe not every year, but certainly every now and then a team comes along that is just a step above everyone else in CT.

I would put my money on those three squads against Don Bosco any day. And because of public perception, I would be getting points. That would be fine with me, because all three would win on the field.
IT SHOULD MAKE EVERY VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL FAN PROUD THAT A SMALL SCHOOL LIKE ANSONIA HAS DRAWN THE INTRIGUE OF PEOPLE WHO ARE PITTING THEM AGAINST A PREP SCHOOL WITH THREE TIMES THE ENROLLMENT AND UNLIMITED DRAWING AREA FROM A STATE AS BIG AS JERSEY
I think MSG’S Mike Quick and Jimmy’s comments about Ansonia vs. Don Bosco was not only an insult to CT football but it was insulting to Ct. coaches as well. I agree that NJ football in most cases is better than Ct. football as a whole. But to basically laugh at Frank from Ansonia’s e-mail was to say the least un=professional. I too havce watched alot of high school football games over the past 35 yrs and their is always a team out their that is beatable. I like to see MSG convice Marcie from Staples that some of his teams he has coached wouldn’t have a chance playing a Don Boscoe team, or Greenwich, or Bloomfield’s coaching staffs. I guess my point is anything is possible, the games are played on the field, and for now we will never know: ANSONIA VS. DON BOSCOE
The best team in NJ would beat the best team in CT EVERY YEAR by more than 21 points. That includes any Bloomfield or Ansonia team.
Just look at how many NJ players go on to play D1 compared to CT players. No college coach in America – and they scout all of the HS programs – would suggest that the top CT teams could compete with the top NJ teams.
BTW, I’m a huge CT football fan but also a realist who follows the recruiting game closely.
Please, enough already! DBP would ROLL Ansonia, with the JV in by 3rd Q
Bosco is looking for Ohio powers (St. X), SC power Byrnes, and Fla powers Lakeland and Neese for thier schedule. They rolled some team from OH in Herbstreit Calkssic, rolled Philly’s best and are one of the best coached HS FB teams around.
I hat to say it but teams they paly in the NNJIL, St.Joes’a dn Bergen Catholic would alos roll Ansonia

Bosco would ROll Ansonia
They look for National Powers from OH, PA, FL, and SC to play..Ansonia is a good program in a weak FB state. NJ is a differnt level
Listen I realize that the top CT team might not compare with the Top NJ team prospect wise but that really has little to do with heart on the field and playing the actually game I agree most NJ state teams would win but it would be closer than you think I know NJ state football players and there not much better players but better athletes theres a difference
i do believe don bosco would probably beat ct’s best team almost every year but roll them wahatever you mean by that i dont think so..i certainly know nj football is a step above and i am certain that are best team would’nt get “rolled” other teams that would play and possible beat or roll don bosco:
shelton ’99 with orlovsky and a great defense
and New Britain’s teams in there prime years
Remember Trumbull 1986…USA Today final poll #14. DBP & Ansonia might be a good game or it might be a blow out. I now teach and coach in Tennessee & I don’t see to much of a difference in terms of speed & size within the larger class public schools in greater Nashville-Middle TN area and with New Haven & Fairfield County in CT. Mack & McKoy would be just as effective as would Conn’s other top talent. It is strength (most schools have football weights periods during the day) & numbers

Dude, get a clue as to what you are talking about. The 2003 Don Bosco team finished as the #2 ranked team in America. They had 13 players go D1. St. Anthony’s of Long Island (the perennial #1 team in NY) wanted Don Bosco a few years back. After being completely outclassed three years in a row, it wasn’t a shocker that St. Anthony’s took Bosco off their schedule. Be careful of what you wish for…
Bosco will not play the #1 team in CT because Bosco is looking to play the best teams in the nation to elevate appreciation for HS football in the northeast where it is not generally respected. Most nationwide critics and analysts see the CA, FL, TX and OH elites as the best teams in the country and that holds Bosco back from climbing in the national polls. Bosco plays a much tougher schedule than most of the top teams in those states and is very hungry for nationwide respect. They are clearly looking to be a national power and bring NJ to the forefront.
My Mother is from CT, my sister lives in CT and my brother played for Milford Academy. Personally, I think having watched CT and NY HS football on MSG every week and having seen alot of it in person I do not think CT’s top teams could play with Bosco on a consistent basis. I applaud this Ansonia team but start out with smaller bites. Bosco could be up 48-0 before halftime. They are an incredibly well coached machine that can annihilate good teams.
48-0 at halftime? i doubt that.i played football in ct during the mid 90′s andi transfered to gulf highschool in florida.. the speed was quicker but not by much.. bigger states have bigger enrollments so they draw from, a bigger pool. i would agree jersey schools from top to bottom are better, but i wouldnt go as far as saying don bosco would mop up the top ct school every year. college football is the perfect example of how even the unbeatable can be beat…..greenwich has a chance to prove ct football isnt that far behind
Hey Juan:
Watch MSG High School Roundup on Tuesday night and tell me that the NJ top team would not mop up CT. We here in North Jersey are embaressed by the level of play of the best teams in CT and LI. Seriously, even to the untrained eye CT, LI and NYC HS football looks like Pop Warner. Not only would Ansonia not be able to score a single point against Bosco they would probably give up a few to Bosco’s D. I have seen Bosco play good North Jersey teams who are light years ahead of every team in LI and CT and embaress them so badly I felt sorry for the good athletes on the opposing team. You just dont know what you are talking about. Bosco’s JV would handle Ansonia easily. Greenwich would get rolled so badly its not even funny. Come watch Bosco in person if you dont believe me. Come to Bosco v. Bergen Catholic on 11/3/07 and you will see what I’m talking about. Its one thing to be good in CT. Its another to be good in the US.
Here’s a sample of DBP: http://youtube.com/watch?v=m0EpY74BEoo
The players are bigger, stronger, and faster than anything Connecticut has to offer…just compare the number of division I recruits from the two states. It is disproportionate even when factoring in the population differece. But if you don’t believe us, have the AD of Greenwich or Ansonia or whoever call Coach Toal and schedule a game for next year. Don Bosco is building an out of state schedule second to none in the U.S.
