So I’ve got the web working here in the parking lot at Pomperaug and, thankfully, since I’m so close to Waterbury I thought I’d check in with my boys at WATR like I did last year Bob Sagendorf, Steve Gesseck and a surprise coach-in-the-box guest, Steve Croce, the offensive coordinator at Holy Cross.

I tuned in at 6:04. And heard 5 Ansonia plays, including a 39-yard touchdown run by Alex Thomas with 7 in change left in the first quarter.

I’ll do a little running commentary as much as I can before heading down to Arum field, including giving scores of the SWC game at halftime.

6:14– Between Sagendorf and Gesseck going nuts about Thomas, Croce comes with a nice observation on Woodland trying a goal line defense on Thomas at midfield and not being able to touch Alex, who must have at least 80 yards in the first quarter.

6:15–Ansonia 14, Woodland 0: a 12-yard touchdown pass from Ron Bilodeau to Tom Pitney. It’s 14-0 with 3:12 remaining. Gesseck: You keep keying on Thomas, sooner or later they’re going to beat you with the pass.

Just six plays and 56 yards for that lead. Yikes.

Think Ansonia’s posted my Elite 8s on their bulletin boards? I’m sure I’m not liked on either Ansonia and Woodland sidelines if that’s the case. (I hope not).

6:16–Eric Alferi fumbles the kickoff, and Sagendorf interrupts Croce, but Woodland luckily takes over.

6:17– Croce going off on the lack of respect the NVL gets. I have to agree with him there.

6:19–Woodland’s punting for the third time. They’re getting nothing going on Ansonia’s defense. Woodland has just 9 yards with a minute to go in the first quarter, Gesseck says. That’s in contrast to Thomas’ 120 or so yards.

6:21–Ansonia’s got the ball back and it’s the Alex Thomas show again. Sagendorf comparing Thomas to former Syracuse/Cleveland/NFL Hall of Fame Star Jim Brown. “People hit him and just slide off and he explodes again.”

Croce with a great analogy: You almost need one guy to hold him up and another to tackle.

End 1, Ansonia 14-0.

6:24–More Croce (Give this guy a microphone!): Will Volage had a great punt, but that just means more yards for for A.T.

6:24–A rare stop by Woodland. It’s fourth and short…. A.T. Again.
6:25–Well, it’s like Woody Hayes, Sagendorf said, if you can’t stop it, I’m not going to stop using it.

6:26–Thomas is at 157 on 17 carries, Gesseck says. It’s still early in the second quarter. This game is over, folks.

6:28–Thomas has Woodland backed up once again. Ansonia is now milking the clock and pushing the Hawks deep, deep into a hole. Croce says the Char

6:2921 carries, 187 for Thomas…gets it down to the 1/2 yard line. Six of his rushes has been for more than 10 yards Gesseck says.

6:30Thomas barrels in again. It’s now 21-0. Did I say this game is over yet? Ansonia is just good.

Off to the SWC game. Be back later.
