STATE TOURNEY TIME: Softball Pairings

by:

ciac_logo_ltbl.gif We’re going to just provide the links for softball because, well, it’s just silly that we publish them here when it’s a much nicer presentation by Matt Fischer at CIAC. (translation: I’m too lazy to write all the HTML codes for another bracket when you can look at them yourself.)

The Rachele Fico Invitational
(aka Class LL).

  1. Bob says:

Come on, you have to have more class with Class LL. Yes, Fico has dominated every hitter this year, but there is still a team behind her that hits the ball to get the win.

  2. ctfp says:

    What’s WRONG with you???
To call the Class LL the Rachele Fico Invitational is a slap in the face to all of the girls in LL that work hard and try their best.
Yes, Rachele is talented- hard working, and hands down the best in the state, if not the country, but, you can’t compare all the good players in CT. to her. Take Fico out of the picture, and then rate LL. How much more can be written about her? The reporters from every paper in the state, and the “Coach” radio show should do features on ALL of the best players- not just Fico every week. There are ALOT of players out there that work just as hard as Fico-in LL, L, M, and S. where are their stories?

  3. Softball Fan says:

Your titling of the Class LL is totally inappropriate. This grouping is supposed to be about teams – not an individual player – that’s what they have individual awards for. You might think what you did was cute or funny, but instead, it actually shows your immaturity and bias. It’s a slap in the face to all the other teams and players – including Fico’s teammates. They are all still kids.

  4. rfb says:

I agree! Yes she is good and we need to appreciate it but there are other players and teams out there. How about focusing on scholar-athletes as well? It may not be as exciting now but when we look back in 6 years from now – we’ll see who is “successful” in real life.

  5. stop says:

parents – please don’t make this a big deal. Yes, it does take a team to win. But when a picther is dominant and CAN PICTH IN EVERY SINGLE GAME then the story could be about her. IT IS THE FICO invitational until a team beats her. I apologize that some athletes are more blessed adn that a story or line can’t be only about her cuase there are other athletes whose parents think they should get some press for being on the team. STOP IT. She is the best player in the state. I don’t understand why some people want a news story to include the also ran’s. It’s called “the house that Ruth built”, not the house that .200 hitters built who were happy to be on the team.
This kind of stuff makes kills me, SPB there is nothing wrong with your line.
I am not from Monroe, I dislike softball with most of my heart but I dislike posts like this too. GOOO FICO!! Best of Luck and I hope you win the rest of your games….by a lot!

  6. SPB says:

Unfortunately, softball is a sport where one person (the pitcher) can be (and in high school, usually is) the entire team.

When the bunt-single and the E5 are your standard offensive weapons, its already time to revamp the sport.

Now think about this: Fico strikes out an average of two batters every inning, making these weapons practically obsolete.

You can’t beat her if you don’t score off her. And when was the last time she allowed an earned run? …in April of 2007?

So, in my humble opinion, it’s the Fico Invitational until proven otherwise.

Sorry, everybody, but If you want sugarcoating try Mary Poppins. You won’t find it here.

  7. someone says:

The pitcher is not the whole team……how dare you

  8. BJF says:

Well, looks like she won her own invitational

  9. SPB says:

Indeed she did, which is supposed to happen when you host your own tournament. -sp
