A pair of Shelton turnovers, including an interception thrown by Ray Pendagast that Cheshire’s Billy Ragone took 40 yards for a score, helps Cheshire put the Gaels into a 20-7 hole.
I’ve been watching it on the WTNH website on this link here. I’ve actually had better success with their pop-up video at this link here.
Now, Shelton has turned the ball over a third time early in the third quarter and is in big trouble as Cheshire is driving into Shelton territory.
Update: Cheshire couldn’t convert a fourth down and Shelton’s Matt Stevko just caught a 67-yard touchdown pass from Mike Brighindi. It is now 20-14 with just over five minutes remaining in the third.
Update: Shelton held on fourth and 5 inside their 10 yard line and marched right back down the field, scored on a touchdown run by Joel Youd and took a 21-20 lead with 9:01 remaining.
Shelton still leads with 8:39 remaining in the game.
Final Update: Shelton wins 35-34 in overtime.
When we last left, Cheshire took lead with 6:24 remaining when Billy Ragone, on a 4th and 4 from 46, hit Brian Havlicek for a short pass that turned into a 54-yard TD to made it 28-21.
Shelton took over at its own 18 with 2:18 left and had a 4th and 5 at the Cheshire 43 Mike Brighindi hit Jon Ercolino for a 7-yard gain and the first down. Shelton faced third and 3 from the Cheshire 29, and Brighindi hit Ercolino for 28 yards down to the 1.
On third and goal, Ryan D’Angelis scored to tie the game at 28-28 with 30 seconds left. That completed an 82-yard drive in 1:48.
In overtime: Cheshire scored on Ragone threw a 10-yard TD on first and 10. The kick, however, was low. Cheshire led 34-28.
Joel Youd ran five yards and then scored on the next play, a 5-yard run, to tie the score. After a Cheshire encroachment penalty nullified his first extra point, Jamal Mitchell kicked the extra point for the win.

WTG GAELS!!!
the Gaels wrestle victory from the jaws of defeat. they trailed three time and came back to win. Cheshire has no kicking game. The should have gone for two in OT. the cheshire QB is one heck of a player.
it was a fight to the finish, good game.
Does this mean the Gaels make it back into the Elite 8, SPB? I think they earned their way back in, don’t you? Pre-season you had them there. Come on…give the Gaels what they deserve! The kids earned it.
I am sooo proud of our boys! They work so hard during the week in practice. They deserve the wins. GO GAELS!
this was a great game to watch with a lot of back and forth , big plays , clock management and good sportsmanship from both teams
give credit to Shelton for good execution at key times and good coaching adjustments.
the Cheshire team will be a tough out this year and has showed that on a dry track they can play with anyone
too bad someone had to lose this one
what a game….
this goes to show the parity of the SCC
Ragone is a great player
he personally dismantled Prep last year
Prep fan—————-at least you dont have to wait till thanksgiving to get beat by west haven again to get knocked outta playoffs———better get east haven and derby back on that schedule
