Whew… a wild, wild, wild week 3.

by:

Whew. …I’m trying to catch my breath after a wild, wild, wild Week 3.

Take your pick on the game of the year: Shelton-Cheshire. …Fairfield Prep-Hand. …West Haven-Hamden. …Darien Ridgefield. …Bunnell-Weston.

And we still have games to play Sunday (today).

For now, read about it all at The Connecticut Post football page.

I’m so exhausted, I’m cashing out for a day.

Let me hear your stories from all of this week’s craziness:

Hamden strikes again… that week 5 game against Shelton is looking bigger and bigger.

  2. Masuk Rules says:

Bunnell got outplayed and out coached against
the mighty Weston Trojans. They deserved to lose
the game. No offense to the tough Trojan players but there are J.V. teams that are better than them in Fairfield County. For someone to say Bunnell is one of the top ten best teams in Connecticut is ludicrous. They can’t just walk off the bus and win a game against kids who come ready to play. The Panthers don’t fall in love with their press clippings like the Bulldogs and lay eggs against teams that have only have won a handful of games in recent years. Masuk players and coaches are licking their chops to baptize their new turf field with a bunch of Bulldog tears on 10/24. Don’t sleep on Oxford next week!

  3. gman says:

Darien is a good football team. Very balanced on offense with their running and passing game. The game against Greenwich was no fluke. Look for Darien in the MM playoffs. IT could very well be New Canaan vs. Darien in the finals. Daniel Hand, if it runs the table, will be a formidable foe in the MM playoffs. It’s good to see Hamden having success again-they play a tough schedule. Not so sure that Hillhouse is as good as everyone says. This weeks Staples at Ridgefield will be very interesting. Ridgefield is not as bad as their record and Staples, despite their record, is not as strong as past Staples teams. St. Josephs has risen from the dead these past two years-very competitive team.

  4. bigmikect says:

much props to the ncanaan rams for winning saturday, also credit danbury for hanging tough. that was a 14-06 game late in the 4th,danbury threw a pick, ncanaan scored game over. im not saying the hatters culda pulled it off,cuz they did nothing on offense all day,but credit them for hanging tough,no1 thaught they were gonna hold ncanaan to 3 tds, after jumping out to a 14-o 1st quarter lead.now, onto the darien ridgefield game, seesaw game pretty much, with the difference being a darien field goal tht kept the wave up 10 at 2 diff points in the 4th.darien might be the surprise story of the fciac this year, with a good chance of being 8-0 going into their last 3 big games(staples, stjoes, ncanaan).i gotta say im a little dissapointed in the tigers,i picked them to be in the thick of it,lets see if they can regroup this week against staples, which they always play tough.how bout that stjoes team also?seems like they are cruising rite now,and u gotta look out for them.well, off to newtown/pomperaug,should be a great game, whats better than high school football on a sunday?

  5. Hank says:

Bunnell Weston was a nail biter. Bunnell had a great comeback but if Bunnell Weston even being in the running for a game of the year says something. How can Bunnell, with a top 3 ranking in the state, be in such a tight game with Weston? It was 19-6 WESTON at the half. The Trojans got the ball to start the half and marched down the field and scored AGAIN. Give credit to the Bulldogs though it was quite a comeback. 24 unanswered points. Then again, it is Weston. Give credit to the trojans as well though for really putting up a fight.

  6. RAY BROWN says:

have all those bunnell fans stopped bloggin?ansonias schedule is constantly maligned but the #2 team inthe state barely gets by the weston juggernaut.—wow

  7. RAY BROWN says:

hamden strikes again?its about time they havent done anything in past 20 years——now theyre crowned the next fly by nighters

  8. tj says:

Obvioulsy Masuk Rules is the Dad of senior second stringer at Bunnell who can’t stand Bruno or the Bunnell program.

  9. TRUYOU says:

If Bunnell killed Weston they would have stolen a handful of votes from Ansonia (they really rocked Wilby)(and no I don’t want to hear about resting players, it is not needed in that league because every week is a rest!)

  10. A-Rod says:

Bunnell must be up to something pretty special when they score 24 unanswered points late to win, after playing their “d” game and looking beat for 3 quarters, get mentioned by Masuk people constantly and have Ansonia fans in the mix now. How many top 25 upsets in the NCAA this week, Ray ? That’s why you play these games. Bulldogs didn’t get upset and will regroup and by the way, so relax Masuk Rules. Bunnell will lose eventually, I think, so Panther land can breathe easier.

  11. PBL says:

I was not at the game, but I bet Bruno was having Sloat toss up a bunch of 25 to 35 yard passes that don’t work.

  12. Paul says:

Masuk Rules, whatever happened to you toning it down a bit? You’re embarassing yourself and the Masuk program. What is your connection to the Masuk football team anyways?

  13. Masuk Rules says:

Pomperaug at 0-3 is officially cooked. Most teams in the SWC aren’t carrying their weight and make them tough to defend. I would like the Bulldogs to be undefeated going into 10/24. However, with their abysmal performances this year I doubt it will happen. I want the win on 10/24 to catapult the Panthers into #1. That is the only reason why I care about the “Mad Scientist’s” team. Bunnell apologists seem to love this site. On Weston’s first drive they ran for 85 plus yards. Some people would try to convince you that isn’t alarming. I’ll repeat what I have said in the past in that the Bulldogs lost too much from the last two years to three-peat.

  14. Rob says:

“If Bunnell killed Weston they would have stolen a handful of votes from Ansonia ”

That is possibly the least logical post ever, and that is saying something.

    If, if, if….

Bunnell HAD the chance to kill Weston. They did not. They barely won. Ansonia beat Wilby by 28 points and then played their young kids to end the game. They are not out to prove anything.

  15. Dave k says:

I think Masuk Rules and Ray Brown are half brothers seperated at birth.

  16. bigmikect says:

credit bunnell for pulling the game out,but sooner or later ,they have to raise their level of play,or else a team is gonna bite them.u cant keep getting yurself in these wholes week after week, its gonna catch up to them one of these games. masuk fans dont get too cocky yet(altho masuk has looked better so far in my opinion),bunnell will be ready to play come the masuk game, and should they lose that game, the schedule is easy the rest of the way.im not sold on bethel or stratford, brookfield may pose a problem too soon to tell. bottom line is you bunnell guys cant be that clueless to say that this bunell team is reloaded or as good as last years or year befores, yur just being arguementive if u say they are.

  17. Eugene Metcalf says:

Masuk Rules, you didn’t answer Paul’s post. What is your connection to the Masuk Football organization. Every time the question is posed you duck it.

  18. bulldogs5 says:

Big Mike, I for one am not that clueless to say that this Bunnell team is as good as they have been in the past. The line isn’t the same after losing Farrell and Quarrie, the passing game hasn’t been the same since Smith, Easley, Jackson, and Stringfellow (although it is still excellent) the running game hasn’t taken to much of a hit, but Guerrero was the lightning to Aurelia’s thunder. In my opinion, the defense has not been good. Like you said, it hasn’t been the same since all those guys left. However, they are still very good most of their positions. Being a big Bunnell fan, I hope that the defense (mostly the secondary) figures out whats wrong before the Masuk game, because if they don’t there could be some seriously problems on Bunnell’s new turf field. However, I know for a fact they will be ready to play and know that Masuk will be too. It’s always a great game, even though with the exception of the second half of the state championship Bunnell has won convincingly. Oh yea, if Bunnell wins, I say MasukRules should be kicked off this blog for good. Do everyone a favor Sean, that would be the only good pick you’ve had in a long time haha.

  19. fb says:

if u get the chance to see windsor this year, they are extremely good, and probably one of the top 10 teams in the state. just got back from their game against bristol central. they are big, fast and agressive. they will probably run the table and make it into the class L playoffs.

  20. hamden football says:

ray brown… nothing in the last 20 years? Heard of a guy named Horace Dodd? Also, 1996 they were one first down away from beating the unbeatable Cheshire team in the state championship. Now, the last ten years I’ll give to you, but that was because of, among other things, a poisonous presence in the coaching staff which is clearly no longer present.

Let’s pick up this conversation in November, and see where we are then.

  21. bigmikect says:

hamden football,i remember that year very well,u guys skunked danbury in round 1 i think,37-oo,i believe dodd was a sophomore, tony hawthorne the qb(what ever happend to his brother antaj?).that was a good hamden team, cheshire kncked off greenwich in the semis tht year,18-6 i think, memories,

  22. RAY BROWN says:

horace dodd? is he related to senator dodd?where did he play his college ball-cant remember

  23. fan8 says:

HEY MASUCK RULES IT MAY BE TIME FOR YOU TO GET A GIRL FRIEND OR A HOBBY. WHAT YEAR WERE YOU THE WATER BOY FOR MASUCK. IF BRUNO STINKS AS A COACH THEN WHAT ABOUT MURPHY ,HOW CAN HE LOSE TO BUNNELL IN THE BIG GAME.I AGREE THAT BUNNELL IS NOT AS GOOD AS LAST YEAR I THINK MASUK HAS MANY MORE PLAY MAKERS THEN THE BULLDOGS AND THERE BETTER ON THE LINE.I ALSO THINK POMPERAUG AND NEWTOWN HAVE BETTER TEAMS AND BARLOW AND BROOKFIELD ARE JUST AS GOOD.SO YOU SHOULD BRUNO AND THE PLAYERS MORE PROPS FOR GETTING IT DONE THE LAST TWO YEARS AGAINST A MASUK TEAM THAT WAS JUST AS GOOD.MAYBE YOU SHOULD ASK MURPHY HOW HE LOST TO BRUNO AND BUNNELL 3 TIMES WHEN THEY WERE JUST AS GOOD LAST YEAR.

  24. HSFOOTBALL FAN says:

BEING A BIG FOOTBALL FAN WITH NO TIES,AND WATCHING ALL THE TOP TEAMS PLAY THIS YEAR HERE IT IS.ANSONIA AND BUNNELL ALTHOUGH GOOD ARE NOT THE TWO BEST TEAMS IN THE STATE.LAST YAER MAYBE NOT THIS YEAR.ANSONIA WILL GO UNBEATIN BUT THE NVL IS DOWN. IF CROSBY WHO NVL FANS SAY ARE GOOD MAKES IT TO STATES WE WILL SEE.BUNNELL IS GOOD BUT THERE ARE FIVE TIMES IN SWC JUST AS GOOD.I SEEN BUNNELL AND MASUK AND MASUK IS FOUR THOUCHDOWNS BETTER.MASUK,NEW CANAAN,SOUTHINGTON,NEWLONDON ARE THE BEST TEAMS IN THE STATE,AND NEWTOWN,BERLIN AND HILLHOUSE ARE VERY GOOD TOO.I SUGGEST GETTING OUT AND SEEING THESE TEAMS LIKE I DO SO YOU COULD HAVE A HONEST VIEW.

  25. Chris says:

We should all put Ray Brown on the “Pay no Mind” list.

Hamden is doing big things and I do not think I am the only person who is shocked it has come in just Benoit’s first year. That school has scary amounts of talent and if this coach can gather it together they will be a top 10 team year in and year out.

  26. BIGFAN says:

    Chris,

I agree 100%. Hamden always has talent just never any coaching. I still believe they will lose 2-3 games this year but it looks like he is building something special up there. It is really a shame Ansonia ducks all the good teams and then blames the AD’s and principals. Pull an Al DAvis and leave the NVL then and join the FCIAC to balance out that conference. Then u can play NC, Staples, and Greenwich every year and your problem is solved. They can no longer say they would like to but are not allowed. I can hear the violin playing now !!

  27. CtFootballFan says:

FYI – Horace Dodd went to Penn State (where he never played) and then tranferred to Boston College where he saw limited action for 2 years.

  28. Chris says:

Ansonia will not play in the FCIAC because geographically it makes no sense. The only two leagues Ansonia could ever realistically play in due to realistic traveling constraints are the NVL or SCC.

  29. steve says:

Nice thought Big Fan but it will never happen. Too easy for them to stay up there and string together undefeated seasons which then lead into the absolute weakest bracket in the states now that New London has moved up. No competition = no credibility in my opinion, but the writers and coaches seem to differ on this.

I find it interesting that Greenwich can go to Florida and play a state champ and Don Bosco goes 3000 miles to play a top ranked national team and Ansonia can’t find their way out of the NVL…just give them another meaningless state championship and keep the streak alive. Pointless and demeaning in my opinion.

  30. SPB says:

Yak, yak, yak. …Doesn’t anybody have anything constructive to say rather than my league is better than your league?

  31. fb says:

hey sbp, go keep voting for ansonia #1 and being clueless about the rest of the state…get out and see some real football instead of covering foran/trinity catholic every friday…..and keep out of the real HS football fans’ message board!!!

  32. Masuk Rules says:

I have nothing against the “Mad Scientist” besides his terrible special teams coaching.
The Bulldogs haven’t recovered one squib kick this year and they rarely return punts. I compare this team to the one three years ago that Masuk beat in their own house. Masuk is clearly better than Bunnell this year. The special teams edge will belong to Panthers on 10/24!

  33. SWCfan says:

after this weeks win against pomperaug newtown should take care of the rest of their seemingly easy schedule and meet the winner of the bunnell masuk game in the SWC championship.

  34. Masuk Rules says:

Alright it is true, I am a Bunnell fan just having some fun. Lighting a little fire under the big game on 10/24. Also some people have been posting under my name. Please stop.

  35. bigmikect says:

is the swc broken up into divisions like the fciac? cuz on the standings page of this website, they are all bunched up together,if so how does the swc title game figure out?

  36. ILOVETHEHATE says:

Masuk Rules, do you watch Bunnell every week? you seem to know an awful lot about each game they play with all your in depth insight…kinda weird if you ask me for a masuk fan to be at every Bunnell game.

  37. random lee says:

    so shelton…

  38. Masuk Rules says:

Oh and sorry to Coach B for continually using the term ‘Mad Scientist.’ Go Bunnell!!!!!!!!

  39. Masuk Rules 2.0 says:

There is a bizarro Masuk Rules. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. However, I am not in anyway shape or form a Bunnell fan hence the name Masuk Rules. I’m not surprised some classless bum is out there trying to slander my name.

  40. Masuk Rules 2.0 says:

I am at every Panthers game and attend others when I can. I saw Weston out play and out coach the Bulldogs last Saturday.

  41. hamden football says:

bigmike: anttaj was all america at wisconson, drafted by the raiders and played there behind warren sapp for a few years

  42. RAY BROWN says:

iagree hamden has a wealth of talent but has been victimized by bone head coaching

  43. RAY BROWN says:

big fan—-back in the 70s ansonia was a small school and had teams like shelton west haven nd new britain hillhouse derby on their schedule and wre still ranked in the state. the fciac would cower if ansonia was accepted into their league.

  44. Masuk Rules says:

Who are you? I mean who am I? Wait go Masuk! No go Bunnell!

  45. gman says:

Dear Ray Brown, Ansonia players, coaches and fans would love to play in the Fciac or the SCC because every game would be a test. These conferences would like to have Ansonia on their schedule for the same reason-great competition. No one can deny how good Ansonia football has been and will continue to be, but, let’s face facts, Ansonia plays one game a year-maybe two. Do you think that’s fun for the players. As a former player the worst games are the games you know you will win by thirty or forty points-it’s no Fun. Coaches hate it and the fans are bored. Don’t you agree. The Nvl is a basketball league, one of the very best in the state-its football is probably the worst in the state. Ansonia is tough-it’s a shame they can’t prove it week in and week out because of restrictions by its league.

  46. Prep Fan Shea says:

I can’t stand this stupid Bunnell Masuk argument.

    Here’s a new topic-

IN THE PAST 10 YEARS, WHAT CONFERENCE HAS PRODUCED THE MOST D1 PLAYERS? NOT D1AA, D1.

Ray your the NLV expert, let me know what you come up with.

I can name some SCC ones off the top of my head
Ryan Utzler – Fairfield Prep – Tight end BC
Garret Brown – Prep – D Tackle Minnesota
Masengo Kabongo – Prep – D tackle Maryland
    Antaj Hawthorne – Hamden – Wisonsin/Raiders DT
Horrace Dodd – Hamden – BC RB
John Moffit – NDWH – WIsonsin Tackle
    Dan Orlovsky – Shelton – Uconn/Lions Quaterback
Amari Spivey – Xaiver – Iowa D Back
    Brad Listorti – NDWH – Kicker/ TE

Those are a few that I can just think of.
I know there are FCIAC and SWC bloggers out there, so do your research and let me know what you find

Let’s try and change this stupid Masuk Bunnell argument and let them settle it on 10/24

  47. ryan says:

for some reason i dont see bunnell losing to masuk…they will lose a game somewhere but i just have a feeling they’re gonna pull out the masuk one

  48. Masuk Rules 2.0 says:

Lets talk about an 0-2 team beating Prep last week.

  49. Prep Fan Shea says:

Masuk Rules, Beat Bunnell then I’ll give you the time of day. Hand was 0-2 because they played New London (an excellent team), and Hamden (s strong team). Any way either one would clean house in the SWC. As people have said throughout your blogging, you have no credibility in what you say, so how about you just stop

  50. RAY BROWN says:

YOUR REACHING PREP-BUT HERE IT GOES
    STEVE COUGHLIN-ANSONIA TE-STANFORD
    PHIL MRAZIK–ANSONIA TE—BC
RAMONDO STALLINGS ANSONI-DE-CINCY BENGALS-SAN DIEGO STATE
    CHRIS ORTIZ-CROSBY-LB-NEBRASKA
    DEREK WARDE – LB-CROSBY—SYRACUSE
    MIKE CASHMAN-HOLY CROSS LB-BOSTON COLLEGE
    ERIK KURACZEA-ANSONIA C-UCONN
    TYRONE FREENEY-HOLY CROSS-LB-RUTGERS—-KEEP GOIN?

  51. deakon says:

Yeah, the FCIAC mostly sends players just to the Ivies and the NESCAC. Whatta bunch of losers.

  52. RAY BROWN says:

hey fb-when was the last time anyone from around the state beat someone from southern ct. in the playoffs-except when cochrane scammed up those bloomfield teams?checkout berlin, southington, the hartford area schools and bogus ecc records in the playoffs—let us know your findings

  53. RAY BROWN says:

prep fan–prep is what it is —chumpkillers untill they play someone decent——lookmat the records of years past

  54. Sid says:

    Hey Ray,
Ansonia’s opponents have a whopping one win combined this year.Go Bulldogs!!!
