Danbury-Rutland (The article!)

DANBURY.jpg Details of this result didn’t make our newspaper, understandably. I mean, I guess they don’t have mobile service in Vermont (kidding! It’s a beautiful town Rutland with plenty of amenities courtesy of the ski tourist trade up in Killington (formerly Sherburne).

(Ahhh, skiing. The only reason winter is remotely tolerable).

Anyway, here’s the game story of Danbury’s 33-21 win over Rutland from the hometown Rutland Herald:

Hatters strong-arm Raiders

Apparently Rutland is a perennial power up in Vermont football and they were treating this game the same way Greenwich treated last year’s clash with Naples, Florida.

SPEAKING of Naples! I heard they lost for the first time in two seasons. But no more free links for the Naples Daily News. That’s so 2007.

Darien 31, Greenwich 25 (Thanks, Libby!)

DARIEN.jpgSaturday is a commonly rough day for me. I usually like kick it late nite with fellow football reporters and chow down some Buffalo wings at Archie Moore’s (in either Fairfield or New Haven) after Friday’s games. (Where have you gone, fellow Syracuse alum Phil Soto-Ortiz?)
GREENWICH.jpg

By the time I wake late morning, it’s almost time to hit the Saturday afternoon games. So, yeah, I wanted to head to Darien to see Greenwich. But it’s a long trip from my home outside New Haven. So I settled for a trip to Fairfield Warde-McMahon instead.

Week 2 Thoughts: Let’s have yours

Just got back from a pretty exciting game between Bunnell and Pomperaug. Mark Harrison catches just three passes against double coverage the entire game: 1. An 84-yard touchdown. 2. A 2-point conversion to put Bunnell up 22-14. 3. The game-winning 4-yard touchdown pass from Chris Sloat. Fantastic.

MSG was there. Their highlight show runs Tuesday (looks like that Hoboken game opened some eyes in the home offices of Mike Quick on 34th and 7th).

Lots and lots of crazy results out there. Here’s the view from our angle:

St. Joseph routs Ludlowe – Yow. Hello, St. Joseph.

Bunnell rallies past Pomperaug – A thrilling, thrilling game. Bunnell played out of its mind. Pomperaug is a very good 0-2 team. They’re far from cooked just yet.

Shelton’s win over West Haven ‘special’ – Shelton did everything it needed to win … everything.

Friday’s Week 2 football roundup How about New Canaan, huh? What a result. Looks like I backed the wrong horse. How about Hamden? A sleeping giant awakes.

HOWEVER with Saturday’s games yet to play we won’t recap just yet. Instead, tell us which games you attended and post your thoughts on those games here. We’ll moderate and post your comments ASAP.

So fire away!

Danbury at Rutland, Vt. live stream

DANBURY.jpgJust got an email from Danbury Athletic Director Chip Salvestrini alerting interested fans who can’t make the 200-mile trip up to scenic Rutland, Vermont for their non-league game (perhaps the longest Connecticut road trip of the season), they can watch it live on Vermont’s high school sports channel, Northeast Sports Network.

Here’s the press release, verbatim from Salvestrini’s office:

Week 1 Podcast is up!

In case anyone didn’t realize, the Week 1 podcast has been up on the Connecticut Post’s website as of Tuesday morning.

Since I only caught one game this week (sorry, I had a thing in NYC this weekend) it’s devoid of the usual glam and glimmer, which is to say it’s just me ranting again.

But it’s not a bad rant, I promise. Check it out here on the football page (which you all should have bookmarked by now ;)

New Canaan 41, Trumbull 13 – The (Birdseye Sports) Movie!

Since I can’t be everywhere at every time, it’s nice to know our friends are Birdseye Sports are. This year, Ben Talbott‘s video service is filming several big games and posting the highlights online. They have the tools and they have the talent, so if you can’t get to the big game for whatever reason, this is the next best thing.
