Staples vs NC:
I’d say the prospect of pretty heavy rain tomorrow helps Staples, since NC is a pass-first spread offense. Staples increasingly is running triple option and no doubt will try to hammer NC up the middle with Dangerfield then spring the QB or the trailing TB wide.
Of course, it’ll be nothing that NC’s coaches haven’t seen before and thus will know how to prepare for.
Bigger question: Can NC put up enough points in the rain? There’s a school of thought that says receivers in the rain have an advantage over the DB’s, so maybe that’ll figure.
Thus I’ll be gutless and not offer a prediction beyond saying that NC certainly cannot overlook Staples–nor will they, from all I’m reading about their coach harping on the team’s shortfalls despite the 6-0 record.
One additional nagging truth: yes Staples is 5-1 and that’s a great record, but really they haven’t played well. Close with mediocre McMahon? Five turnovers vs Stamford. Barely beating a not-very-good Danbury team and then barely beating a Massachusetts team with only two wins on the year. But Staples is Staples, and until they’re dead they ain’t dead.

had to add a side comment about SPB’s always perceptive and fair-minded podcasts: week 6 podcast mentions five top teams “on a roll” and another batch “on the rise”–and no mention of 6-0 Darien in either group. If I were Darien’s coaches and players, that’s just how I would like it. It’s always a plus to be under the radar until you get to the finish line.

Masuk-Bunnell. What a game! What a 1st Half! What a final 2 minutes of the 2nd Qtr! Sloat to Harrison! Baker to Conte! Clean hard hitting, no cheap shots. MUTUAL RESPECT. Congratulations to both teams. Too bad 81 went down in the 2nd half, I wish him a speedy recovery.
NC-Staples tomorrow, can’t wait.

In retrospect,I’m not surprised by the masuk/bunnell outcome.all season long bunnell(although undefeated)has been given some decent run by a team masuk totally blew out,or had a losing record.the real surprise has to be brookfield and what they’ve done.bunnell isn’t finshed here, but can ill afford another loss.brookfield vs newtown should be a real good swc matchup.both teams have tons of momentum going into that game.bunnell is a contender, not pretender, buit the better team won.congrats to masuk for finally getting that monkey off their back.

Just saw the New Canaan-Staples game. Great game with two evenly matched teams. For New Canaan to be undefeated and ranked #2 in the state is a credit to the players and coaches. Talent wise they are not in the top twenty but they get it done. Staples is better than their record and will be a force for the rest of the year. This year there doesn’t seem to a dominant team in the state.

i compare the staples/nc rivaly as almost like a thanksgiving game-throw the recordd out, they usually always play a close one,and wild things happen.going in,i personally thought staples was down,(games against darien and greenwich will truly tell the tale).truthfully that norwalk game could be a battle as well.either way i tip my hat to both of these guys, they are true programs and have good systems for their kids to be successfull.its just gonna be strange this year to have a staples vs greenwich thnksgiving game that means nothing.just a testament to how anything can happen every year,p.s.im watching st joes tear apart greenwich on msg,we have a long way to go as a state of highschool football.
