Here’s the latest HSFB Media Poll. And New Canaan is No. 1 again. Not much change from the coaches poll. I’m glad to see Cheshire get back in here finally.
And I know this is already stirring up debate, but lots of voters are liking Masuk better than Brookfield, despite identical records, Brookfield’s head to head advantage and the SWC championship.. (Personally, I don’t get it but that’s why polls are polls.)
New London, like Ansonia before it, getting lots of respect in spite of a loss to Ledyard. I know Jordan Reed is hurt, but I’m not so sure about this one, either. It wasn’t like that Ledyard game was a barn burner. 27-6 is a butt whuppin’. The Whalers are clearly one dimensional and that dimension is sitting on the bench.

One dimensional? If you have a quarterback going to U Florida then you shoould throw the ball. Football is about winning the game. Scoring more points than the team you are playing. It is not about impressing writers and fans and having a balanced offense. Do what you need to do to win football games.
The MM tournament will be awesome-the #1 team in the state should come out of this division-even if New Canaan-Darien and Hillhouse knock each other off.

Mike i couldn’t agree more, Look at the 2,3,4 for L. Simsbury, Newington, and Windsor. Then look at the 5,6,7 Crosby, Bunnell, and Norwalk. Those 5,6,7 teams would have made the tourni so much better too watch. Too bad.
Masuk is 7th & Brookfield is 12TH??? These polls are getting to be a real joke…Brookfield beat Masuk & it was a fluke…Newtown beats that “fluky” Brookfield & becomes the new “STAR” in the SWC…Brookfield beats Newtown & still no respect…cant’ have it both ways but at least now I’ll have some paper to line my cat box….
masuk is 7th and brookfield 12th because masuk is better. They have played 1 bad quarter all year long, and other than that they have been dominant. Last year, who was a better team.. the patriots or the giants?

if masuk is so good then the masuk brookfield game shouldnt have been that close to begin with. keep reaching guys you will come up with something that makes sense eventually. and the 31 3 what does that mean because if you are talkin about newtown beating brookfield it was 34 3 and you can keep the win im sure they will take the title.
Hey “There should be no “huh”" You do realize that the giants won the super bowl right? They lost to the patriots in the regular season, just like brookfield did to newtown, and then beat them when it count in the championship, just like brookfield. Masuk lost, Brookfield won and i honestly hope that Newtown smokes Masuk so all of you crybabies can be silenced. If Brookfield played Masuk again I can almost guarantee the same result, Masuk had no answer to Brookfield’s deep ball and once Brookfield got Masuk’s number defensively they dominated. they went i believe 22 minutes without letting the “great” Masuk offense score. Just let it go already.
actually, brookfield lost when it counted the most. it counted the most in the regular season where it actually counted towards the playoffs, not in the fairy-league championship which has no affect whatsoever on the post season and states.
Hank, thanks for the score correction. That loss, by that big of margin, is why Brookfield is not rated in the top ten. Be patient, if Brookfield wins out,I can see them rated around 5 or 6 in the final polls.
If two teams have the same record, then the head to head match up proves who should be ranked higher. This should not even be a discussion. It doesn’t matter if you THINK Masuk is better than Brookfield. They did not prove it on the field.

To George Hummell, I wish I could live my life like you do, making rules as I go. The unfortunate part is that your onesided thoughts seem to be the disease in Monroe. If Masuk played Brookfield now, they’d lose again. Brookfield wore them down, their special teams cost them a lot. Checking the Masuk schedule since the BHS/MHS game, Masuk has played NO ONE. Pomperaug seems to be the only one with any skill & their record speaks for itself. Not to mention the size of Masuk & Newtown vs Brookfield, small school beats big school, makes it even sweeter! I do have to say that I HOPE Newtown rings Masuk’s bell tonight but Newtown is even MORE overrated than Masuk is so unless there are some big turnovers, I dont see that happenening. Bottom line is that we will have to listen to the whining & posulating of Masuk for yet another offseason. I recommend you take a look at the SWC records & Masuks stats from the games this season. YOu’ll see. Brookfield is #1, plain & simple.
The media poll is a total joke. Most of these voters haven’t even seen the teams play that they vote for. These voters had Staples, with few returning starters and an unimpressive 3 point win over a weak Brien McMahon team in the top ten for weeks. Most of these guys vote for coaches they like and the “reputation” of the school’s program. Another example of this is Brookfield beats Masuk and Masuk is ranked higher than Brookfield. RIDICULOUS. Also ridiculous was Masuk fans hoping Newtown beat Brookfield in SWC Champpionship Game and then Masuk beating Newtown tonight and claiming to be SWC champions. Memo to Masuk fans – you have TO BE IN IT TO WIN IT.

Masuk would probably win. by alot. and brookfield and masuk have the same schedule so therefore brookfield has played “NO ONE!” oh and good luck in states. your class is pretty stacked… i think the majority of mentally disabled children in CT play for those schools.

Note to Masuk fans: making fun of Brookfield and putting them down does not make Masuk look better. It has the exact opposite effect. If Brookfield is so bad and is such a weak program, then that means Masuk got beat by a bad team.

I think two of the best teams around are New Canaan and Masuk. Their offenses mirror each other and they both play a wide open style of football. It would be a great game.
Hillhouse and Darien have the toughest road to the state championship by far. Not only do they have to play each other-then the winner gets (if all goes right) a very good New Canaan team. If New CAnaan and Darien meet in the MM finals it will be the biggest game in their long and illustrious rivalry. I don’t think they would draw 9,500 fans like they did on Thanksgiving Day but it will be close.

That roid head #9 got a 15 yarder for one of the most blatant late hits out of bounds i have ever seen. Whether its celebrating an injury or throwing half back passes while up by 30+. Probably the worst thing any Brookfield player has done is spit on a place that deserves to be spit on.

Football is played with emotion and some players have trouble controlling tempers on occassion…so before you speak i suggest you put though into your posts. cause here is a fact…you’re a nameless blogger…tell me what player cares what you have to say…
I really don’t care for either of these two teams always in this debate. However I looked up the records of these two since there was an argument of the “better program.” In the past 3 seasons since these kids now have been varsity players Masuk is 30-6 while Brookfield is 20-11. Brookfield had a 4-6 season while Masuk topped 10 wins each year. Over the past 6 seasons (as far as I could accurately gather stats) masuk has a clear better record of 59-11-1 while brookfield was 42-16-1. Those are the stats. I’m not saying that this negates Brookfield’s victory over Masuk earlier this season in anyway. They won, it’s over. But I feel and felt before looking at the stats that Masuk is definitely a more feared, consistent, and perennial powerhouse than Brookfield.
First of all I never blamed his rage on steroids, its probly more at the fact they lost to Brookfield. Secondly IDK wat ur trying to pull by making another poke at the beards, they are dedicated to Mr. Z and nothing else. He was a great man and he bet them he could grow his better, it was a joke and a reflection of the way that man lived life. He was greater than you could ever hope to be. Ill tell you what players care about what i have to say, the ones on Brookfield who know how great they are and dont recieve any respect for their accomplishments. They deserve it and its really unfortunate that a team still proclaims themselves as the best in the SWC when they lost the head to head match up AND DIDNT EVEN MAKE IT TO THE GAME!!! Its really pathetic that people like you try and take away from the accomplishments of these young men and all the hard work and dedication that they have put in for four long years.
Agreed Brookfield will not gain the respect Masuk does until Angarano builds a program instead of riding a talent wave twice a decade. Brookfield will beat Avon and Cheney Tech then disappear for a few years. Who had more total yards against Bethel? Brookfield or OXFORD? I know their point totals were the same. How many teams in these playoffs got BLOWN OUT this season? A 34-3 loss for a possible state champ team? So bad. Enough talk….lets play ball.

To Non Masuk/Brookfield Fan, You are right, you did the work and gathered the info. I got on here wanting to have a nice civil conversation about SWC football TODAY, not past years, this year is what I’m thinking about. Program-wise, you’re right. They do have a good program at Masuk. I think at Brookfield they have a good program too. What you said is also how I feel….we should be able to get on here & talk about things without getting personal or ugly – ie discussing mentally challenged people or physical features. To me, this is what makes the season fun, talking back & forth about strengths and weaknesses of each program! Most of the time now, when I get on, I just get upset that things have to be dragged through the dirt. Thanks for your post, it made me believe there are some decent people out there after all!

brookfield and masuk are both excellent teams, brookfield won. yes masuk knows that, by a score of 31-24. it’s over and they accept it. they can do nothing about it now but play and to respect brookfield because they lost. good luck to both teams in the states…bring home 2 championships to the SWC!!!
George, Have fun tonight, rooting on your team as I will be (& freezing our tails off no doubt)! A lot of these posters have to get down & dirty so I’ll forgive you for your one indiscretion. One thing that bothers me A LOT is how the twins are treated and talked about – botom line is that if they were not so amazing, no one would have to find rotten things to say. That said, I am not a relative of theirs I support the WHOLE team! I’m thinking you are like me, just like to lend your support to your hometown team.
