POLL DAY: Week 11

It’s Poll Day! Poll Day! Lovely, lovely Poll Day!

And, as usual, there’s plenty to discuss as we get ready for championship week and Thanksgiving. So let those ideas, praises and criticisms flow (and, remember, keep it civil).

Looks like our only major mover was Seymour, down from 4 to 10 in both polls, but not out of it completely. Is that Cheshire making a move?

(It’s looking like the best team in the SCC right now. Incidentally, if they meet Hamden in the Class LL playoffs, can we call that the SCC Division I championship game? Just a thought.)

Sean’s Playoff Worksheet (with updates)

UPDATED 11:30 p.m. Monday.

einstein.jpgSo I’m sitting here, all day Monday at the home office, scratching and scribbling my way through each of the CIAC state playoff divisions and attempting to come up with formulas that will successfully predict the scenarios for the 2008 state playoff fields, when the History Channel’s 2-hour bio of Albert Einstein comes on at around 9 p.m.

Fascinating stuff, especially how Einstein pretty much dreamed up the Theory of Relativity and worked the base experiments of humanity’s greatest scientific achievement all in his head. Einstein was so obsessed with proving the theory, which would subsequently topple Sir Isaac Newton’s 250-year old Theory of Gravity (now the law of universal gravitation), he worked almost to insanity (he certainly worked himself out of a marriage).

“Huh!” I thought to myself as I worked, and then reworked the Class S bracket for hours on this Monday. “Einstein never had to deal with the CIAC playoff points!”

It took some doing because of holdout games from Newington and Cheney Tech, but here are my results heading into Week 11 and Thanksgiving.

Feel free to poke holes in my theories. Unlike Einstein, I will not provoke a convenient “Cosmological Constant” if you happen to see something wrong.

Anyway, that’s enough history and physics for today. Here are how things stand, according my calculations. Check back here for updates because I was never good a math.

Week 10 Wrap

Just got back from muddy Wilbur Cross, where Hamden moved to 9-1 with a 10-6 victory. Darien also defeated St. Joseph 21-14 (thanks to our buddy David Liberatore for that score).

By the end of this evening, we’ll be able to give you all the playoff scenarios.

Looking back on last night’s games, they were pretty wild, especially in the SCC. But everything went according to form. Kennedy is your NVL championship participant against Ansonia, which defeated Kennedy 36-12 in the regular season.

(WHY, NVL? Why do you insist on playing 11 league games this year, denying teams like Ansonia and Seymour scheduling out of league just so everybody plays everybody, and then insist on playing a championship? You can’t have it both ways.)

Podcast is FINALLY up

For those of you anxiously looking for it, the podcast hasn’t been up this week until right now.

We had some technical difficulties involving old laptops and bad connections and … never mind. The bottom line is that it is up! Hurry and listen because it’s all about tonight’s game and has some funny interview moments involving Seymour senior Dave Gallo and, of course, Paul Sponheimer.

Thanks. Peace.

Seymour-Ansonia: Who do you like?

ANSONIA (8-1)

What do you think? Who do you like? Will this be Ansonia’s first back-to-back loss since… since… (hey anybody know that?) or will Paul Sponheimer suffer one more crazy defeat before he rides off into the sunset?

Return to Sean’s Playoff Neighborhood of Make Believe

Hello, boys and girls. The Week 9 games are in and the new playoff rankings are out. Check ‘em out here

OK, some real top-notch competition in Class MM. Only two in Class SS. Class S looks pretty good. Class L and Class LL look … well, OK. Lots of multiple-loss teams in both of those divisions, though. Class M is looking dreadful after Brookfield.

So now that we’ve had our dose of reality, what would the state playoff matchups look like in Sean’s Playoff Neighborhood of Make Believe? Let’s take a ride and see.

Ding! Ding!

All aboard! Let’s go.
