GAME ON! Boys Hoop tips off tonight

lomax0708.jpg Ladies and Gentlemen…

The 2008-09 boys basketball season tips off tonight!

Before we dip into the previews, let’s take a look at the local docket (all games are at 7 unless noted):

TONIGHT’S SCHEDULE: Amity at Stratford … Ansonia at Sacred Heart … Ridgefield at Central … Trinity Catholic at McMahon … Bullard-Havens at Abbott Tech … Derby at North Haven … Staples at Fairfield Warde, 7:45 … Shelton at Foran … Harding at Darien … Law at Hamden … Masuk at Hand (another interesting one. Masuk’s Scott Corchard and Jake Davies vs. Hand’s Callaghan brothers) … Norwalk at New Canaan (The report is NC senior guard Jamie Pares is done with a knee injury) … East Haven at ND-West Haven … O’Brien Tech at Platt Tech (rivalry game already) … Seymour at Kennedy … Wilton at Trumbull, 7:15 … Career at West Haven … Weston at Stonington, 7:15 …Hamden Hall at Greens Farms, 4:30 … Christian Heritage at Harvey, 5:30.

BASSICK.jpg LUDLOWE.jpgGAME OF THE NIGHT: Ludlowe at Bassick, 7 — Bassick’s looking like one of the top suitors for the crown sitting on Trinity Catholic’s head. A top guard in Mike Lomax and talented up-and-comers Josh Hamilton, Jeremy Daniels, Jeremy Williams. Ludlowe lost its top two scoring threats, Drew Billington and Brian Tharp, who helped the Falcons topple Bassick 62-52 last year. Ludlowe brings back solid seniors Brian Grasso, a 5-10 guard and Chris Curran a 6-2 forward. We like Bassick in this one, but don’t be surprised to see Ludlowe show up.

NOW… on to the previews:

  4. Shelton over foran 53-42.

  5. What happen to bassick? Ludlowe took it to them. Ludlowe is a sleeper team along with Staples in the FCIAC. Bassick plays no D that’s why they cant contend with Trinity and St Joes. Harding barely beat Darien proves they shouldnt be in the Top 10.

  6. Is there any reason that for the 100th time Crosby needed to put up 113 last night. We get all over football teams if they score 50 but when Crosby consistently have starters in late in a 60 point game no one says anything. Anyway is Bassick and Foran getting beat shockers or no? Lastly i was at the Stratford vs Amity game last night and really felt bad for the big guy i think Sherrod who got called for two technical fouls both for hanging on the rim. The first one was bad but i’ll give it a maybe even though he missed the dunk. The second T was awful. He went to dunk a rebound, missed then fell right on his back so how is it possible he hung on the rim? The purpose of the call is to promote sportsmanship and prevent taunting so i hope the refs understand that. It mostly seems to be a Fairfield County thing!

  7. Vinny,
I thought Shelton looked good. They played with a lot of energy for new coach and out played Foran. They have size and quickness and some depth. Soph point guard hit 5 three’s and lead offense.

  8. saw shelton in two pre-season games–if they played in the nvl or fciac theyd be 5 win team

  9. That Aaron Gagner is going to be a player for Shelton. He can shoot and they don’t have much else on the perimeter. Look for him to average bout 20 a game.

  10. SPB,
Any idea if there was ever a score management rule proposed for basketball or any other sports?

    Comment by deify — December 19th, 2008 @ 1:37 pm

  11. hoopsnut,
Here we go with the my league is better than your league stuff. You may be right the SCC is not a great basketball league after Hillhouse, Wilbur Cross, Hamden,Xavier. The rest of the SCC does not stack up to the FCIAC and NVL Catholic and city schools.Since Shelton only won 3 games in the SCC last year they don’t play the aformentioned schools this year thus they have a good chance at a winning season. I don’t know who you saw them scrimmage to trigger your negative opinion but one of the scrimmages must have been Trinity Catholic right?

    Comment by Dave k — December 20th, 2008 @ 7:34 am

  12. da u,

those teams typically petition up to play in LL. doesnt seem like to many teams did that this year. i was talking to turino at the nvl meeting a few months ago and his expectations were’nt to high coming into the year. they dont have much behind williams. but a 6’10 guy with his ability will win you 15 games himself
