SWC Playoffs: Down goes Stratford

Stratford’s 34-game win streak has come to an ignominious end. Ahead by 18 points at halftime, the Red Devils couldn’t hold off a wild Kolbe Cathedral comeback and lost 82-81 in overtime in the SWC quarterfinals on Saturday at Weston.

Dominique Langston and Ronnie Underwood both had 26 points apiece. Underwood hit the game-tying basket with 6.8 seconds remaining in regulation and Langston made a pair of foul shots with 26 seconds left in OT for the winning margin. Stratford had plenty of chances to win this game, but finished 19 of 36 from the foul line, including just 5 of 13 in the game’s final six minutes of play.

Kolbe Cathedral, the eighth seed, advances to play Notre Dame-Fairfield. In the other SWC semifinal we’ll get Bunnell vs. New Fairfield.

  1. Do we think that New Fairfield co0uld make a run at the title? New Fairfield embarassed Notre-Dame last week beating them by 28. Bunnell Lost to ND by over 20. New Fairfield seems to be one of the most consistant teams in the league. NF lost to bunnell by 2 earlier in the season and then beat Kolbe. Should be 2 very interesting SEMI FINALS!

  2. New Fairfield and Kolbe Cathedral have taken over as the favorites. You could see NF coach Joel Pardalis grinning after that KC-Stratford game.

  3. It would be great to see a NF vs. Kolbe final since NF has really come along way. Whos gonna win Bunnell or NF? If NF shuts down coward and he picks up some early fouls it could go there way! They are quick, they are scrappy and certainly embarassed ND last week beat them by 30.
