It’s that time of year again.

Can’t you feel the chill in the August air?

Hear those tweeting whistles? Those crunching pads? The barking of coaches? The cheering fans?

It’s high school football season.

Can’t see, feel, hear any of it huh? That’s because it’s high school football season… in Alaska.

Kickoff is this weekend in the Land of the Midnight Sun. Alaska is annually the first state to kick off its high school football season (why? Hint: it has something to do with latitude). North Pole HS tops the Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network media poll. It’s a full slate tonight and tomorrow. Kenai Central is at Lathrop; Nikiski is at Homer; Service-Anchorage is at East-Anchorage…

If you absolutely need to feed your fixing for high school football, here’s all the coverage you need from Alaska.

Meanwhile, there are 40 days and 40 nights until we here on the other side of the continent can finally kick off our high school football season. Connecticut is the LAST state to start its high school football season. Just doesn’t seem fair, now does it?

Woah, someone from OUTSIDE of Alaska knows that we play sports up here? I’m even more shocked that it’s my own school their talking about! Kudos to you Mr. Blogger for giving us some attention!

It’s a pity that this season, the boys Varsity team (The one pictured) did NOT win a SINGLE game this season….poor guys.

-But they do pride themselves in being the FIRST team to practice in the nation lol.
