SPB's High School Football

Connecticut High School Football news, analysis, commentary and features with Connecticut Post online producer and writer Sean Patrick Bowley.

Live HS football chat tonight, 8:30

You know the drill, kids. Get your homework done, your chores completed. If you’re my age or older, put your kids to bed and kiss your wife (or husband… I know you ladies are out there, too) and hop on for a little high school football chat with me and The Advocate’s Dave Ruden.

We’ve done two of these so far and, in lieu of my weekly podcast (discontinued temporarily as I tend to new responsibilities), I think it’s a good way for us to recap and look ahead to the next big week of games.

We kick off a 8:30 and will go until 9:30. We’ll field as many questions as possible, but since the comments come faster than we can respond, it may take a few minutes or more before we get to yours. So be patient.

See ya then.

  1. good poosibility that Shelton is 1-3 by week four. They can’t stop the run. Xavier and Hamden both have powerful running games. Hayes and Teague are going to 200+ yard games. Who’d have thought

  2. The only one that can beat Hamden is Hamden. They almost proved that against WH. 10 penalties, 5 fumbles and 2 dropped TDs.

  3. I am not sure if my comments are getting to you or maybe they are not interesting enough to post no big deal

  4. I know its early but 2 losses in the LL will definitely keep you out and there’s a chance that 3 out of 4 teams may not lose.

  5. this is his first year on a football field, but believe it or not he has had UConn and BC ask the Hamden coach about him. He is an athelete but needs to learn the game

  6. the hamden big guy is Brandon, he is about 100 pounds heavier than pinkston, is one of the smaller lineman on Hamden they have some big boys

  7. You had to click on the window to join the chat, which runs like an IM. …Perhaps your computer didn’t show it?

  8. The 6’3” 365 pounder from Hamden isn’t a starter and to my knowledge hasn’t been playing, although he is quite a big boy. The real stars on that offensive/defensive line are Jo-Von Ladson, Cameron Davis and Byron Pinkston.

  9. Darien beats St. Joes. Hears what I think, Darien was caught off guard by Warde (who will be a very good team within a few years-any guy who coached with Marinelli for 10 years knows what he’s doing) then bounced back by wrecking Danbury. Not a Darien fan by any stretch, but i think they’re a team to look out for later in the season.
Staples beats Ridgefield. Both don’t look as impressive as the polls say they are. Ridgefield is a pretty good team, but they have no legitimate offensive threats. Staples has good coaching and will be more prepared for this game. With that being said, I don’t believe the winner of this game will be in the FCIAC game as many believe. I don’t know the schedueles but I just don’t see either team running the table after this, even with Staples playing Greenwich after the FCIAC game (which is the worst).
