  2. Spb, Who in your opinion is the best HIGH SCHOOL football player in the state this year?

  3. Does anything go by quicker than a High School Football Season!

The hell that is practice is done for another week. Game time! Enjoy it Seniors.

  4. Not southwest Ct., but game to watch in week #6 is New London/Montville. Features one of the top running backs in state, Montville’s Girard-Taylor against NL’s defense. Mmotville has been averaging over 40 points a game, NL has given up only 19 points in last 3 weeks. Lot’s of emotion in this game, NL beat Montville twice last year in close games once during regular season, winning on final play of game, and in CIAC playoffs in close game. Ecc has 6 teams (NL, Montville, Ledyard, East Lyme, Fitch, & Stonington) that could qualify for states but will eliminate each other. NL has given only loss to 4 out of 5 teams they have played. Edge to NL with tougher schedule. Should be great game.

  5. Big statement game in the FCIAC this week. New Canaan is being called overrated and many are calling St. Joe’s underrated. New Canaan hasn’t been tested yet and St. Joe’s has dominated all of its opponents for the most part. St. Joe’s hasn’t seen the likes of Turner Baty yet, but New Canaan hasn’t had the chore of tackling the red-haired assassin Tyler Matakevich either. New Canaan will win, but it will be a close enough game for New Canaan to lose votes in the Top 10 poll. Will New Canaan lose enough votes to slip to #2…..

… after Hamden thoroughly demolishes a tough Xavier team? Xavier increases its tuition and tries to lure Scott Benoit to Middletown for next year. He accepts! A great coach he undoubtedly is. Loyal?…not so much.

Does Greenwich continue their momentum or do the Cardinals comes back sluggish after the convincing win last week? Possible trouble handling Central’s athletes? Cards get the win, but there are not as many plays worthy of YouTube this week.

Trumbull gets a win over Stamford, but Fortt plays very well. Going out on a limb on both of those huh?

Hand is the only team that has a shot to pose problems for New Canaan in MM. Unfortunately, they won’t make the playoffs because they play in the SCC Div I, which is the best high school conference in the history of the world, or so I am told by my Amity friends.

I was drinking milk the other day and I saw the Wilbur Cross team from their week 1 win over Xavier on the carton. Has anyone seen this team?

Wolcott needs a win to re-establish themselves as a legit playoff contender and Derby is a good start. The clock has not struck midnight on the Derby cinderalla season just yet, but it is looking like 11:30 pm right now.

Shelton meets Prep in a game with no implications of any sort. All of the people who pre-ordered tickets for this game in June are selling them for pennies on the dollar on StubHub.

Ansonia at home against Watertown. Most years, this is a no brainer. NVL tough to figure this year.

Apparently, when the original New Haven broke up, all of the good athletes went West and all of the budding Mafiosas went East. This week, the Yellowjackets sleep with the fishes. I am part Italian, so that makes this joke ok.

Sorry that I prematurely awarded Crosby with the 2009 Right Said Fred Award. Brookfield is a STRONG contender.

Stratford vs. Masuk. I’m definitely going to this game…..in 2006.

Seymour vs. Wilby. This is one of Seymour’s last chances to get a win this year, with Ansonia, Wolcott and Woodland remaining. This is a good time to point out that they were ranked #5 in the pre-season media poll. This is also a good time to point out how useless pre-season polls are.

To think that the Bunnell-Oxford game will be competitive would have been unthinkable last year at this time. Bunnell wins, but the talent gap has noticeably shrunk in the middle of the SWC. Is it possible to make a joke about Bruno’s waistline shrinking without being tasteless? Probably not.

Darien travels to Attleboro, MA for some reason. Teams that play out of state are in a nice situation. If Darien loses, they can claim that they only lost because Attleboro is a perennial state power in Mass. If they win, they can claim that Attleboro is a perennial state power in Mass and it’s a huge win.

  7. Some quips we can do without, Bay… but very few. We like edgy commentary at CTPost.

  8. In 2006, The Masuk Panthers beat Stratford 68-35!

    Comment by MasukRules — October 23rd, 2009 @ 3:36 pm

  9. SPB, you should host a taped show with Bay like those guys in Waterbury. He is the most (intentionally) amusing poster on here.

    Comment by roto — October 23rd, 2009 @ 5:43 pm

  10. 2006 stratford-masuk was one of the wildest games ever, started the SPB cover jinx. Great fun!

    Comment by tj — October 23rd, 2009 @ 5:48 pm

  11. We have heard the last of Bunnell! Masuk beat the best football team from Stratford last night.

    Comment by MasukRules — October 24th, 2009 @ 10:33 am

  12. Bay,
You went from being considered “witty” to classless and weak, very similar to the joke that is MasuckRules. Please stay on the blogs and remain anonymous, you’ll never have to man up and actually stand behind your rude comments. SPB, please edit this garbage better, there’s nothing edgy about disparaging remarks towards the great coaches and players in the area.

    Comment by hscoach — October 24th, 2009 @ 12:48 pm

  13. P.S. Bay, wrong about the Hamden game, wrong about the Greenwich game, wrong about the Trumbull game. Not surprising. A show featuring you and SPB just might be considered for Comedy Central.

    Comment by hscoach — October 24th, 2009 @ 1:16 pm

  14. hscoach, if you are a high school football coach, do yourself a favor and “STAY OFF THE BLOGS”. Nothing good will come of it for you. Just a little neighborly advise.

    Comment by HS FBall Fan — October 24th, 2009 @ 6:16 pm

  15. How did Wilbur Cross beat Xavier? I don’t think they will lose another game in the regular season. Xavier might be playing the best football in the state right now.

    Comment by MasukRules — October 24th, 2009 @ 7:37 pm

  16. MasukRules: I think Notre Dame-WH is playing the best ball in the state right now. The had Xavier dead to rights, and frittered that game away in Week 2.

In the SCC, don’t be surprised at anything. All of those top teams are legit. Hamden, Xavier, Notre Dame-WH, Cheshire.

    Comment by Sean Patrick Bowley — October 24th, 2009 @ 7:40 pm

  17. Hey coach, if you are going to read blogs, you have to lighten up. I don’t see anything offensive in that post by Bay. And so what he didn’t predict Hamden, Greenwich, or Trumbull to lose. Nobody did. That’s why they were big upsets.

    Comment by NFS — October 25th, 2009 @ 10:07 am

  18. masuk rules bunnell and stratford both stink

    Comment by ray brown — October 25th, 2009 @ 3:29 pm

  19. ray brown, Ansonia’s only one win better…hahaha. Ansonia just got beat by Watertown and your spouting off. Are you kidding?!!!! Glad to see you fixed your cap lock … or is it just that there isn’t much in the valley to gloat about these days?

…and for masukrules, Bunnell should be higher in the polls!

    Comment by Bunnell Booster — October 25th, 2009 @ 6:20 pm

  20. Bunnell Booster is funny! I always put Masuk should be higher in the polls.

    Comment by MasukRules — October 25th, 2009 @ 7:46 pm

  21. Hey Ray Brown,go and blame the coach some more.Run him out of town like they did to Doug Morrell.Ansonia losing to Watertown is like Masuk losing to New Fairfield.Watch out for Derby this week…

    Comment by James — October 25th, 2009 @ 10:21 pm

  22. Masuk will never and has never lost to New Fairfield. Their coaching staff is too good. Lol.

    Comment by once — October 26th, 2009 @ 7:47 am

  23. The FCIAC/SWC Challenge: Staples vs. Masuk, Pomperaug vs. New Canaan. I’ve got my money on the FCIAC. SWC stands for Southern CT’s Weakest Conference.

    Comment by Pigskin Prophet — October 27th, 2009 @ 12:12 pm

  24. Masuk beats staples in that game, and NC beats Pompy by 14

    Comment by prophet — October 27th, 2009 @ 1:26 pm

  25. Masuk would play anyone tough even in a down year. Coaching and heart in that town bring it to life every Friday. Their crowds this year have been absolutely huge.
